No. 1 Volleyball sweeps UTSA

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Volleyball improved to 2-0 on the season with a sweep of UTSA, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15, on Sunday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns will head to Minneapolis for their first road match of the season, facing preseason ranked No. 7 Minnesota on Wednesday, September 1 at 7 p.m.
Texas dominated at the service line, finishing with 14 aces during the match. Logan Eggleston tied her career high with five aces, while Jhenna Gabriel had three aces and Nalani Iosia added two aces.
Skylar Fields led Texas for the second straight match, finishing with eight kills and hitting .429. Melanie Parra had seven kills, two digs and one service ace.
Brionne Butler had a strong match, finishing with six blocks and six kills. She helped hold UTSA to just a .147 hitting percentage during the match. Molly Phillips added three blocks and four kills and Asjia O'Neal had one block and four kills.
Gabriel dished out 16 assists, while Naomi Cabello had eight assists in the match. Eggleston had a team-high eight digs, Iosia finished with four digs and Sydney Petersen had three digs.
The Longhorns jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first set and cruised to a comfortable 25-17 win to start the match. The second and third sets were more of the same, as Texas led from start to finish.
Following the Longhorns' first road trip of the season they will return to Gregory Gym to host nationally ranked Stanford on Sunday, September 5 at 1 p.m.
