No. 1 Volleyball beats Texas A&M, 3-1

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 1 Texas Volleyball took down Texas A&M for a gritty 3-1 win, 25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 29-27, on Friday night in front of a record crowd of 6,822 at Reed Arena.
The Longhorns improved to 8-0 on the season and picked up their second road win. Texas had 12 blocks in the match and outhit the Aggies .322 to .178.
Logan Eggleston led Texas with 21 kills and hit .327 in the match. She also had 14 digs and four blocks to compile her sixth double-double of the season. Skylar Fields had 13 kills and four blocks for her seventh double digit kill match of the season.
Asjia O'Neal led the Longhorns with seven blocks, her second seven block match of the season. She also had seven kills, hitting .400 in the match, to go with six digs. Brionne Butler finished with nine kills, hitting .571, and had three blocks. Molly Phillips had eight kills and four blocks.
Jhenna Gabriel dished out 44 assists and added six digs. Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres saw her first action in a Longhorns uniform, finishing with four assists and one kill. Nalani Iosia led Texas with 19 digs and added four assists.
Texas dug itself into a 20-16 hole in the first set before rattling off six-straight points to take a 22-20 lead and eventually win the set 25-22. Eggleston had six kills, hitting .455, and three blocks in the set. Despite the close margin, the Longhorns outhit the Aggies .382 to .171 in the opening game.
The Longhorns dominated the second set from start to finish, jumping out to a 12-5 lead and never looking back. Texas was strong at the net and had four blocks in the set.
The third set saw Texas dig itself into another big deficit, trailing 21-16 before rattling off six-straight points again to take a 22-21 lead. Texas A&M finished the set on a run of their own though, taking it 25-22.
The fourth set was tightly contested and back-and-forth as the Longhorns had to hold on for a narrow 29-27 win to clinch the match.
The Longhorns are back on the road next week, traveling to Houston to take on Rice on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
