No. 9 Men’s Golf tied for seventh after day two at Southwestern Invitational

Junior Travis Vick fired a five-under-par 67 and enters tomorrow’s final round just one stroke off the individual lead.
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — The No. 9 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 4-over-par 292 on Tuesday to stand in a tie for seventh place after the second round of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club. Junior Travis Vick carded a 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday and is in third place at 7-under 137 (70-67), just one stroke off the individual lead entering tomorrow's final round.
The Longhorns have registered a 5-over-par 581 (289-292) over the first 36 holes. No. 2 Arizona State has a two-round score of 18-under 558 (283-275) and owns a six-stroke lead over No. 5 and tourney host Pepperdine at 12-under 564 (287-277). The 12-team field at the Southwestern Invitational includes six squads that are ranked in the Top 25 of the latest Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches poll (Nov. 19).
Vick opened his round with birdies on each of his first three holes before suffering a bogey on the fourth. He notched an eagle on the par-five 6th hole to move to 4-under through his opening six holes. After a bogey-birdie-double bogey stretch on holes 9-11, Vick made his second eagle of the afternoon on the par-five 12th hole to climb back to 4-under. He added a birdie on the par-five 15th hole to finish at 5-under on the day.
Vick is in third place in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 7-under-par 137 (70-67). UCLA's Devon Bling (67-69) and Trent Phillips of Georgia (66-70) share the individual lead at 8-under-par 136.
The Southwestern Invitational concludes with 18 holes each on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Texas will be paired with San Diego State, UCLA and Wake Forest for Wednesday's final round, and tee times will begin at 11:10 a.m. CT (9:10 a.m. PT) from hole 1. Golf Channel will provide live coverage on Wednesday from 3-6:30 p.m. CT (1-3:30 p.m. PT).
The Lineup
- Junior Travis Vick enters tomorrow's final round in third place on the individual leaderboard at 7-under par 137 (70-67), just one stroke off the lead. Vick's 5-under 67 on Tuesday was highlighted by a pair of eagles on the par-five 6th and 12th holes and five additional birdies.
- Junior Mason Nome carded a 2-over 74 on Tuesday and is tied for 39th at 5-over 149 (75-74). Nome registered a 2-under 34 on the front nine and posted four birdies on the day.
- Senior Cole Hammer fired a 3-over 75 and is tied for 16th at 1-under 143 (68-75). Hammer carded three birdies on the afternoon.
- Freshman Alejandro Gonzalez tallied a 4-over-par 76 for the second straight day and is tied for 47th at 8-over 152 (76-76).
- Junior Will Thomson posted an 8-over-par 80 and is in 62nd place at 15-over 159 (79-80).
