Softball releases its 2023 spring schedule

Longhorns are set to play 25 total games against 16 teams that reached the 2022 NCAA Field of 64
AUSTIN, Texas – Coming off a magical 2022 season that ended with a No. 2 national ranking and a runner-up finish at the Women's College World Series, the Texas softball program and head coach Mike White are pleased to announce their challenging 2023 spring schedule.
Official game times and TV designations will be released at a later date.
Along the way, the Longhorns will face off against three of last season's Women's College World Series participants in Northwestern, Oklahoma State (national semifinalist) and Oklahoma (national champion). UT will battle four NCAA Super Regional qualifiers (Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech) and will contest 25 total games against 16 squads that earned bids to the 2022 NCAA Field of 64 (Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Lehigh, Louisiana, McNeese State, Missouri, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Princeton, Tennessee, USF, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin).
During its scheduled 55-game regular-season slate, the Burnt Orange & White will leave the "Lone Star State" just four times with out-of-state trips scheduled for Clearwater & Tampa, Fla., Norman, Okla., & Ames, Iowa.
For the second straight year, Texas will open its season on the road by venturing to the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic (Feb. 10-12) at Eddie C. Moore Park in Clearwater, Fla. During the event, UT will face a strong field, including five NCAA Tournament teams in Missouri, Northwestern, Illinois, Tennessee & Kentucky.
The Longhorns then return home to open their 2023 home campaign at Red & Charline McCombs Field by hosting a mid-week match-up against Lamar (Feb. 15).
Next up, the Burnt Orange & White host back-to-back home tournaments. First on the slate is the Texas Classic over Feb. 17-19 as Loyola Chicago, Omaha and Incarnate Word visit Austin. Over Feb. 24-26, Virginia Tech, Abilene Christian, Texas Southern and Kansas (not playing Texas during the event) make the trip to McCombs Field for the Lone Star State Invitational.
Following a mid-week home game against North Texas (March 1), UT welcomes in Louisiana, McNeese State, Princeton and Tennessee State for the Longhorn Invitational (March 3-5).
After a quick trip up I-35 for a road match-up at UT Arlington (March 8), Texas hosts the last of its four scheduled home tournaments against Wisconsin, Alabama and Texas State at the Bevo Classic (March 10-12).
UT then heads out on the road for six games, including a visit to Huntsville, Texas, to battle Sam Houston (March 14) and a return trip to "The Sunshine State" to play in a tournament at USF against the home-standing Bulls, Marist, Lehigh and Iowa (March 17-19).
Texas returns home to host Stephen F. Austin on March 22 before starting its rugged Big 12 Conference schedule by welcoming in Texas Tech to McCombs Field over March 24-26.
UT will host additional Big 12 series against Kansas (April 14-16) and Oklahoma State (April 21-23) as well as the opener of its annual split-series against Baylor (May 5).
League road trips are slated for Oklahoma (March 31-April 2), Iowa State (April 6-8) and Baylor (May 6-7).
Several additional non-conference contests are also on the docket as Texas travels to Texas State (April 12) and hosts both UTSA (April 26) and Sam Houston (May 3).
The postseason begins with the annual Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., over May 11-13.
The NCAA Tournament schedule gets underway at campus sites over May 19-21 with NCAA Regionals and follows with the best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals over May 26-28. The annual Women's College World Series at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., is scheduled to be contested from June 1-9.
