Junior RHP Teagan Kavan limited Arkansas to two runs on three hits.

AUSTIN, Texas – Despite junior RHP Teagan Kavan holding No. 7 Arkansas to just three hits, No. 5 Texas Softball fell to the Razorbacks, 2-0, in Thursday night's series opener at McCombs Field.

Texas falls to 38-9 overall, 15-7 in SEC play and 15-9 against ranked opponents.

Kavan (19-4) limited the Razorbacks to just two runs on three hits across 7.0 innings of work. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native totaled four punchouts and worked around two walks and two HBP. Kavan did not allow a base hit in the game's final four innings and tossed two 1-2-3 frames. Arkansas scored both of its runs early in the second and third but Kavan controlled its offense throughout the remainder of the game.

The Longhorns combined for four hits on the night. Seniors Leighann Goode, Viviana Martinez, Reese Atwood and Kaiah Altmeyer were responsible for Texas' four hits. Goode smacked her ninth double of the season in the bottom of the seventh.

Arkansas claimed a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI groundout and then scored its final run in the third on a double down the left field line.

Texas attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh when Martinez began the inning with a leadoff single through the right side. With one out, Goode barreled her double to the left field wall that moved Adayah Wallace, who was pinch running for Martinez, to third base. Texas was unable to get both runs across.
