Kavan twirls 10-strikeout gem, No. 5 Softball wins regular season finale vs. No. 7 Arkansas

Junior RHP Teagan Kavan turned in a 10-strikeout complete game.
AUSTIN, Texas – Junior RHP Teagan Kavan turned in a 10-strikeout, complete game to fuel No. 5 Texas Softball to a 4-1 victory over No. 7 Arkansas Saturday afternoon at McCombs Field.
The Longhorns celebrated Senior Day prior to Saturday's first pitch.
Texas concludes the regular season 39-10 overall, 16-8 in SEC play and 16-10 against ranked opponents.
Kavan (20-4) notched her seventh double-digit strikeout outing of the year with 10 punchouts across 7.0 innings of work. The West Des Moines, Iowa, product limited the Razorbacks to just one run on four hits and worked around a walk. Kavan twirled three 1-2-3 frames and began the game retiring five-straight batters. It was Kavan's 13th complete game of the year.
Arkansas tacked on its lone run in the top of the second on a solo home run before Texas scored four unanswered runs.
Freshman designated player Hannah Wells put Texas in front 2-0 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second. It was Wells' second home run in as many games and her 12th of the year.
The Longhorns added its final two runs in the fifth. With one out, junior first baseman Katie Stewart cracked an infield single and then junior shortstop Viviana Martinez propelled a double to right center to advance Stewart to third base and put runners in scoring position. An Arkansas' fielding error plated Texas' third run of the game and allowed senior catcher Reese Atwood to reach base. Senior second baseman Leighann Goode then connected on an RBI single up the middle to plate Martinez and make it 4-1 Texas.
Wells drove in a team-high two runs on her two-run shot in the second inning. Junior center fielder Kayden Henry led UT with two hits in her 2-for-4 day. Stewart, Martinez, Goode and senior left fielder Kaydee Bennett registered a hit apiece.
