AUSTIN, Texas – According to a Thursday announcement from the league office, Texas fifth-year senior midfielder Emma Regan was selected as a 2022 Big 12 Conference Soccer Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The Burnaby, British Columbia, native earned Texas' second Big 12 Conference Soccer Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year honor over the past three seasons, joining former Longhorns midfielder Emily Strouphauer who shared the accolade back in 2020. Regan was a co-recipient of this year's award alongside Texas Tech's Hannah Anderson, West Virginia's Jordan Brewster and Oklahoma's Cailey England.
A four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, Regan owns a 3.93 cumulative GPA in marketing. As one of Texas' unquestioned team leaders on the pitch, she earned her third career All-Big 12 Conference selection in 2022 after scoring a career-high three goals and dishing an assist for seven points while playing 1,946 of 1,980 possible minutes. In her role as a holding midfielder, Regan helped guide a Texas defensive unit that registered eight shutouts while allowing just 0.82 goals-per-match. She opened her 2022 offensive efforts by scoring a huge 25th minute goal during a 3-2 victory over Florida (Sept. 28) and followed that up with single scores against both Texas Southern (Sept. 15) and Oklahoma (Oct. 27). Regan completed her playing career riding a streak of 80 consecutive starts dating back to 2018. She also finished in the Longhorns career top 10 for matches played (tied fourth – 90) and starts (third – 89).
The Big 12 Conference established its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2012-13. A recipient is named in each conference-sponsored sport. Every Big 12 institution nominates one individual per sport with the winners selected by a vote of the league head coaches for that sport, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team's scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
