No. 1/3 Track and Field sweeps Big 12 Indoor Championships

AMES, Iowa – Texas men's and women's track and field swept the Big 12 Indoor Championships for the second year in a row, just the second-ever program to complete the feet in the Big 12.
The No. 1 ranked women's team scored points to take its fifth-straight indoor title. The Longhorns claimed three event wins on the final day of competition in the 200m, 400m, 600yard and 800m, including sweeps in the 200m and the 400m.
Davicia Patterson defended her 600-yard title with a winning time of 1:19.41. Brooke Jaworski also defended her 800m title with a personal-best time of 2:03.87. Despite being tripped, Valery Tobias added two points in the event with a seventh-place finish at 2:13.00.
The first sweep from the Longhorns was in the 400m dash, with Kennedy Simon's diving effort of 51.54 seconds to win her first 400m conference title. Stacey Ann Williams finished just behind in second at 51.60 seconds, while sophomore Rhasidat Adeleke completed the sweep in third with a time of 52.33.
The final sweep came from the 200m sprinters with Julien Alfred claiming the event with a time of 22.89 seconds. Kynnedy Flannel closed in second with her time of 23.02 seconds, while Kevona Davis finished third with a time of 23.30 seconds.
Alfred also recorded a second-place finish in the 200m just missing first by .002 seconds. She finished with a time of 7.17 seconds, while Flannel added a third-place finish at 7.30. Davis added a fifth-place finish at 7.33 seconds.
Tyra Gittens made her conference debut with a second-place finish in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 1.84m (6-0.50). Marleen Guerrero finished sixth at 1.74m. Milan Young also posted a second-place finish, adding eight points in the 60m hurdles with her time of 8.18 seconds.
Alyssa Duhart added the final point with an eighth-place finish in the women's 3000m after her time of 9:44.48.
The No. 3 men's team won its second-straight indoor title scoring 171 points after winning five events.
The squad was led by Tripp Piperi's eighth conference shot put title. The senior remains undefeated this season and posted four of his six throws over 21 meters. His winning mark was 21.40m. Patrick Piperi added a second-place finish in the event with a personal-best throw of 18.90m, while Jalil Brewer finish fourth at 18.63m.
The men's relay of Jon Maas, Jonathan Jones, Willington Wright and Brian Herron broke the Texas program record with a winning time of 3:04.19.
Jonathan Jones added the world's-best 600-yard time on his way to defending his title with a at 1:06.68.
Yusuf Bizimana and Crayton Carrozza exchanged first and second place finishes in the men's mile and the 800m. Bizimana defended the mile title with a time of 3:59.85, while Carrozza finished second with a time of 3:59.99. Carrozza claimed the 800m later in the afternoon with a time of 1:47.22, while Bizimana finished second at 1:47.78.
Phillip Frank finished fifth in the heptathlon scoring 5,476 points, while Demetri Whitsett finished eighth with 5,283 points.
Charles Brockman finished fourth in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.03 seconds, while Marcellus Moore finished second in the 60m (6.70) and seventh in the 200m (21.13).
Wright and Herron totaled nine points in the men's 400m, with Wright finishing third at 46.58 and Herron in sixth at 47.14.
Sam Hurley scored his first conference point in the men's high jump with an eighth-place finish at 2.10m. Cole Lindhorst added eight team points after another diving finish for Texas in the 1000m and a time of 2:22.99.
The men's 3000m scored 11 points as Yaseen Abdalla finish third with a time of 7:56.29 and Rodger Rivera in 7:57.14.
