No. 9 Men’s Golf jumps five spots on day two at Amer Ari Invitational

WAIMEA, Hawaii — The No. 9 Texas Men's Golf team fired a 10-under-par 278 on Friday to improve five spots into ninth place after the second round of the Amer Ari Invitational at Hapuna Golf Course. Senior Cole Hammer and junior Mason Nome each fired rounds of 4-under-par 68 to lead the Longhorns on Friday.
Texas has posted a two-round team score of 13-under-par 563 (285-278). Hammer and Nome are both tied for 21st place on the individual leaderboard with 36-hole totals of 6-under-par 138.
The 19-team field at the Amer Ari Invitational includes 10 squads that are ranked in the Top 20 of the latest Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches poll (Nov. 19).
No. 10 Texas Tech owns the 36-hole team lead at 36-under-par 540 (273-267), just one stroke in front of No. 2 Arizona State at 35-under-par 541 (268-273). No. 20 Washington is third at 30-under-par 546 (273-273).
Baard Skogen of Texas Tech holds the individual lead with a 36-hole total of 13-under-par 131 (66-65), two strokes in front of Preston Summerhays of Arizona State at 11-under-par 133 (66-67). There is a group of five players tied for third at 10-under-par 134.
The Amer Ari Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Saturday, Feb. 5. Texas will be paired with Auburn, Stanford and San Jose State for Saturday's final round, and tee times will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT (7:30 a.m. HT) with a shotgun start.
The Lineup
- Senior Cole Hammer carded a 4-under 68 on Friday and is tied for 21st place with a 36-hole total of 6-under-par 138 (70-68). Hammer posted six birdies on Friday.
- Junior Mason Nome recorded a 4-under 68 on Friday and is tied for 21st with a two-round total of 6-under-par 138 (70-68). Nome tallied five birdies against just one bogey during the second round.
- Junior Travis Vick registered a 3-under 69 on Friday and is tied for 47th with a 36-hole total of 2-under-par 142 (73-69). Vick posted four birdies against just one bogey on Friday.
- Sophomore Randall Fojtasek carded a 1-over 73 on Friday and is tied for 99th with a two-round total of 7-over-par 151 (78-73). Fojtasek tallied a pair of birdies and 14 pars during the second round.
- Freshman Alejandro Gonzalez posted a 4-over 76 on Friday and is tied for 90th with a 36-hole total of 4-over-par 148 (72-76). Gonzalez registered three birdies on Friday.
- Junior Will Thomson, who is competing as an individual at this event, fired a 1-under 71 and is tied for 41st with a two-round total of 3-under 141 (70-71). He registered a pair of birdies and 15 pars during the second round.
