Base Knocks:
- Texas' defense has settled in since a tough night against UCF, posting a .975 fielding percentage while making just 11 total errors over the last 18 games (11 no-error efforts).
- Texas sophomore OF Bella Dayton has caught fire at the plate lately, posting a 12-game reached base streak dating back to March 2 against Sam Houston. Over that stretch, Dayton is hitting .435 (10-for-23) overall with eight runs scored, eight walks, three extra-base hits and three steals.
- In the circle, sophomore Estelle Czech has turned into a valuable relief pitcher. In eight appearances out of the bullpen against FGCU, McNeese State, No. 5/6 Florida State, No. 3 UCLA, No. 24 UCF, No. 22 Arizona State, Minnesota & No. 23 Louisiana, the Downers Grove, Ill., native owns a 1.84 ERA and 21 strikeouts over 19 innings of work.
- Catcher/first baseman Katie Cimusz recently posted an 18-game reached base streak (Feb. 19-March 16). That's the longest by a Longhorns player this season and for any Texas freshman since Janae Jefferson registered a 19-game reached base streak from April 11-May 12, 2018.
- Texas' tie on March 13 against Minnesota was its first since March 15, 2008, when UT deadlocked vs. North Carolina, 1-1.
- Texas freshman third baseman Mia Scott is off to a terrific start to her collegiate career, hitting a team-high .394 overall (28-for-71) with four doubles, three triples and 13 steals. Scott currently leads the Longhorns with nine multi-hit games in 2022, is batting .417 when leading off any inning and recently posted a 16-game reached base streak.
- Look out for Texas' offense this season with two outs in an inning. In all, 65 of the Longhorns' 151 total RBIs (43%) have come with two outs, while 14 different Texas players have recorded at least one two-out RBI with senior catcher/first baseman Mary Iakopo leading the way with 11.
- The Longhorns are off to a fast start in 2022 as far as stolen bases go. Texas' 52 steals are the most over the first 28 games of a season since the 2014 Texas squad swiped 47 bags over that same stretch.
- Freshman catcher/first baseman Katie Cimusz earned her first career selection as the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week on March 8 after hitting .429 (9-for-21) over seven games with eight runs, two steals, four HR's, 21 total bases and seven RBIs, while slugging 1.000 with a 1.500 OPS. She also homered in four-of-five games over one stretch, including a two-run HR off Alabama All-American pitcher Montana Fouts.
