The Details
After leaving two runners stranded in the first, Texas struck in the bottom of the second to grab a 2-0 lead. Day got things rolling by blasting a leadoff solo HR out to right. With Washington aboard on a double to right, Jefferson followed by chopping a two-out RBI single through the right side.
With Dolcini cruising from the circle, having faced just two over the minimum through three, the Longhorns added two more in the bottom of the third. Walks to Parker, Iakopo and Day loaded the bases with one out. That set the stage for consecutive RBI singles from Washington and Cantu to make it 4-0.
The Burnt Orange & White offense blew things wide open in the bottom of the fourth. Jefferson utilized her speed to get the assault started by singling up the middle and stealing second. From there, a Scott RBI single, a Lou Gilbert walk, an Iakopo RBI double down the left-field line and RBI groundouts by freshman left fielder Katie Cimusz and sophomore pinch hitter Camille Corona boosted the lead to 8-0.
With one final chance to avoid the run-rule in the top of the fifth, Lamar got two-out singles from pinch hitter Olivia Taylor and center fielder Piper Hankins, but that was it off O'Leary, as a groundout to short ended the game.
