No. 1 Men’s Swimming and Diving in first following second night at NCAA Championships

The Longhorns broke two program records and collected a pair of third-place results while extending their lead on the second day of competition.
ATLANTA – No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving is in first place following the second night of competition in the 2022 NCAA National Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center on Thursday. The Longhorns lead the national meet with 180 points, while Florida (159) and California (158) currently sit in second and third, respectively.

Highlighting the evening for the Longhorns was a program record in the 200 free relay, the third relay record for Texas over the first two days of competition. The quartet of seniors Drew Kibler and Daniel Krueger, junior Caspar Corbeau and senior Cameron Auchinachie placed third in the final with a time of 1:14.41, besting the time of 1:14.88 set by Brett Ringoldd, Joseph Schooling, Jack Conger and John Murray at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Prior to that, the finals session started on a high note for Texas in the 500 free with Luke Hobson placing third, posting a time of 4:08.42 to place the freshman in a tie for third on the UT All-Time Top 10. Sophomore David Johnston touched the wall at 4:11.57 to place sixth, while sophomore Coby Carrozza placed 15th overall with a time of 4:14.45. Both Johnston and Carrozza had notable performances during the prelims, as Johnston moved to sixth on the Texas all-time list with a time of 4:10.96 and Carrozza joined the top 10 at number eight with a mark of 4:12.09.
In the 200 IM, Texas had four swimmers finish about the top 15, led by Carson Foster with a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:40.13, earning the sophomore his second-straight All-American honor in the event. Junior Jake Foster finished eighth with a time of 1:40.63, improving upon his prelim time of 1:40.91 that placed him at number four in program history. Corbeau (1:41.32) finished 13th, while senior Braden Vines (1:42.71) placed 15th. During the prelims, Carson Foster clocked a personal-best 1:40.07, improving his hold on the number three spot in program history, while Vines moved into the top 10 with a time of 1:42.35.
Kibler added a sixth-place finish in the 50 free, touching the wall in 18.87. He began his day setting the UT record in the 50 free during the prelim with a time of 18.60, breaking Schooling's mark of 18.76 set at the 2017 Big 12 Championships. In the same prelim race, Auchinachie posted the second-fastest time in program history with a 50 free of 18.63.
The Longhorns continue competition at the NCAA Championships on Friday, March 25 through Saturday, March 26 at the McAuley Aquatic Center. Friday's action will feature competition in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 3-meter springboard diving and 400-yard medley relay. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. CT with finals sessions scheduled to get underway each day at 5 p.m. CT. All prelim and finals sessions will be streamed live on ESPN3.
