Women’s Swimming and Diving sweeps Big 12 Awards

Longhorn’s record sixth consecutive sweep of the league’s awards.
IRVING, Texas – Texas Women's Swimming and Diving swept the 2021-22 Big 12 Swimming and Diving of the Year awards, the conference office announced on Thursday. It marked the sixth consecutive sweep of the awards and the seventh sweep in program history. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Junior Kelly Pash was named the Big 12 Women's Swimmer of the Year, and freshman Erica Sullivan was named the Women's Newcomer of the Year. Freshman Hailey Hernandez collected the Big 12 Women's Diver of the Year honor. Carol Capitani was named the Big 12 Women's Swimming Coach of the Year, and Matt Scoggin received Big 12 Women's Diving Coach of the Year recognition.
Pash claimed five top-five results at the NCAA Championship meet. Individually, she won bronze in the 200 free and took fifth in both the 200 fly and 200 IM. She also helped the Longhorns to fourth-place finishes in the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay. Pash earned Swimmer of the Meet honors at the Big 12 Championship, winning three individual titles in the 100 free, 200 IM and 400 IM, and claiming four conference crowns as part of the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay and 400 medley relay.
Sullivan tallied a pair of top-three finishes at the NCAA Championship meet, winning silver in the 1650 free and bronze in the 500 free. She won two individual championships at the Big 12 Conference meet with victories in the 500 free and 1650 free on the way to earning Newcomer of the Meet honors.
Hernandez earned a pair of All-American honors at the NCAA Championships, placing fourth on the 1-meter and eighth in the 3-meter. Prior to that, she collected Diver of the Meet honors at the Big 12 Championships after winning the 1-meter and 3-meter events. At the conference meet, she established a conference record with 360.80 points on the 1-meter and a meet record with 418.50 points on the 3-meter.
Capitani earned Big 12 Swimming Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive year and eighth time in her career. She led the Longhorns to a 10th consecutive conference crown and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships, the best result for the Longhorns since finishing second in 1994.
Scoggin swept the Big 12 Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year accolades for the seventh consecutive year and 12th time in his career. He earned Big 12 Women's Diving Coach of the Year honors for the seventh-consecutive year and 14th time overall. UT's combined men's and women's divers collected five top-eight finishes and contributed a combined 101 points to the team standings.
