Base Knocks:
- Texas is closing in on a program milestone as the Longhorns enter the week needing TWO WINS for 1000 all-time victories. UT currently owns a 998-444-3 record (.692).
- Freshman catcher/first baseman Katie Cimusz earned her first career selection as the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week on March 8 after hitting .429 (9-for-21) over seven games with eight runs, two steals, four HR's, 21 total bases and seven RBIs, while slugging 1.000 with a 1.500 OPS. She also homered in four-of-five games over one stretch, including a two-run HR off Alabama All-American pitcher Montana Fouts.
- Senior pitcher Hailey Dolcini has been named one of 30 national candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
- Senior second baseman Janae Jefferson is closing in on yet another career milestone by needing just nine hits to become the first Longhorns player and fifth player in Big 12 history to reach the 300-career hit mark.
- Texas sophomore shortstop Alyssa Washington had quite a performance last Sunday against Miami (OH), going 2-for-3 with a HR and a career-high SIX RBIs. It marked the most RBIs in a single game for a Longhorns player since Shannon Rhodes knocked in six against UTSA on March 27, 2021.
- Look out for Texas' offense this season with two outs in an inning. In all, 47 of the Longhorns' 99 total RBIs (47%) have come with two outs, while 12 different Texas players have recorded at least one two-out RBI with sophomore infielder Alyssa Washinton leading the way with eight.
- The Longhorns are off to a fast start in 2022 as far as stolen bases go. Texas' 38 steals are the most over the first 21 games of a season since the 2014 Texas squad swiped 45 bags over that same stretch back in 2014.
- In the circle, sophomore Estelle Czech is becoming a valuable relief pitcher. In six appearances out of the bullpen against FGCU, McNeese State, No. 5/6 Florida State, No. 3 UCLA, No. 24 UCF and No. 22 Arizona State, the Downers Grove, Ill., native owns a 1.24 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 11.1 innings of work.
- Texas freshman third baseman Mia Scott is off to a terrific start to her collegiate career, hitting a team-high .422 overall (19-for-45) with three doubles, two triples and 10 steals. Scott currently leads the Longhorns with six multi-hit games in 2022, is batting .476 when leading off any inning and enters Wednesday riding a 13-game reached base streak.
- In three-plus seasons under head coach Mike White, Texas is 111-10 when scoring three-or-more runs in a game (11-3 in 2022), 108-12 when out-hitting its opponent (9-2 in 2022), 90-11 when scoring first (8-3 in 2022) and 57-9 when scoring during the first inning (8-2 in 2022).
- Junior shortstop McKenzie Parker is delivering for the Longhorns when given the opportunity with runners in scoring position this season, hitting .429 (6-for-14) in such situations with seven RBIs. Parker had three RBIs with RISP against No. 24 UCF and two RBIs each in wins over No. 15 Clemson & Boston College.
- Texas senior second baseman Janae Jefferson continues to excel from the leadoff spot in the lineup as the three-time NFCA All-American is batting .480 as the leadoff of any inning in 2022, going 12-for-25 at the plate in those situations.
