AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas Men's Golf junior Travis Vick will represent the United States at the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday. Vick is one of 12 men's players selected to the American squad that will compete on July 1-3 at the Golf Club de Geneve in Vandoeuvres, Switzerland.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the GCAA and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lounge in Orlando in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men's and women's university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players. Beginning with the 2018 matches at Evian Resort Golf Club, the Palmer Cup is the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
During his junior season in 2021-22, Vick has posted a team-best 70.48 scoring average and recorded five top-10 and seven top-15 individual finishes in nine stroke-play events this season. He is No. 28 in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings (April 13).
An Academic All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2022, Vick tied for fourth place at the Southwestern Invitational (Jan. 24-26) at 5-under-par 211 (70-67-74). He placed fifth at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 2-3) at 10-under-par 206 (68-67-71).
Vick also tied for seventh at three tournaments earlier this season, the Western Intercollegiate (April 11-13) at 4-over-par 214 (73-73-68), the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 13-15) at even-par 216 (71-74-71) and the Southern Highlands Collegiate (Feb. 27-March 1) at 9-under-par 207 (69-69-69). Last summer, he advanced to the semifinals at the 2021 U.S. Amateur.
Current UT senior Pierceson Coody competed for the winning U.S. team at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup, held last summer (June 11-13) at Rich Harvest Farms outside Chicago. Texas assistant coach Jean-Paul Hebert also served as an assistant coach for the United States team at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup.
