UT senior claimed individual medalist honors at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational in first tourney appearance since mid-October.
IRVING, Texas — University of Texas Men's Golf senior Pierceson Coody was named the Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month for March, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks the first time Coody has earned the honor in his career, and he is the first Longhorn to claim the accolade since Cole Hammer in April 2021.
Playing in his first competitive collegiate event since the Big 12 Match Play Championship on Oct. 13 (as he recently recovered from an injury sustained in the fall), Coody won medalist honors by six strokes at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 2-3). He had a three-round total of 17-under-par 199 (67-66-66) and earned his second career collegiate victory and first since he won the George Hannon Collegiate on March 16, 2021.
His 17-under-par performance marked a tie for the second-best 54-hole total vs. par in program history, just one stroke shy of Beau Hossler's 18-under at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational during the 2015-16 season. Coody's three-round total of 199 tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in school history, trailing only the 196 by Doug Ghim at the 2018 NCAA Raleigh Regional and the 197 by Hossler at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational.
Playing with its full five-player starting lineup for the first time since mid-October, Texas earned the team title at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational by 26 strokes over runner-up and No. 2 Oklahoma State. The Longhorns registered a three-round score of 50-under par 814 (272-266-276) and set a school record for low 54-hole total vs. par, besting the 45-under-par 819 recorded at the 2016 NCAA Nashville Regional.
Coody and the Longhorns return to action at the Western Intercollegiate on April 11-13 (Monday-Wednesday) in Santa Cruz, Calif.
