Texas will open its spring home slate against Tigres UANL Femenil on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT
AUSTIN, Texas – It's time to begin the 2022 Texas Soccer spring home schedule as the Longhorns prepare to host Tigres UANL Femenil (Thursday, 7 p.m. CT) and Houston (Saturday, 7 p.m. CT) at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Admission to all home spring soccer matches is free, while parking is encouraged in Manor Garage (normal parking fees will apply). There will be no television broadcast of any spring home matches.
Thursday's match is a special exhibition against Tigres UANL Femenil, a Mexican women's football club based out of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The club is the winningest (four titles) in the brief history of Liga BBVA MX Femenil, the top flight of women's professional football in Mexico. Tigres currently sits second in the Clausura table on 33 points (10-0-3 record) after finishing first during the Apertura (47 points, 15-0-2 record).
Tigres UANL Femenil currently boasts three of the league's top seven scorers, Stephany Mayor (11 goals), Mia Fishel (seven goals) and Uchenna Kanu (seven goals). Mayor (Mexico) and Kanu (Nigeria) also currently play as part of their respective national teams, while Fishel was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American that scored 32 total goals while playing the last three seasons (2019-21) as a forward at UCLA.
The Burnt Orange & White began their 2022 spring slate back on March 5 with a 3-0 victory over Texas State at the Bobcat Soccer Complex in San Marcos, Texas.
Despite playing without the services of freshman standouts Trinity Byars, Lexi Missimo and Holly Ward, who were on international duty at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, the Longhorns got a brace from freshman transfer Jilly Shimkin and a goal by junior forward Sydney Nobles to roll past the Bobcats.
Texas is coming off an 11-5-6 season in 2021 that saw the squad finish as the Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament runner-up, while earning the program's 15th all-time trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Byars (tied for second – 34 points) and Missimo (fourth – 32 points) completed the 2021 fall campaign as two of the top four scorers in the Big 12 Conference. As the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year, Missimo scored nine goals (tied for fourth in Big 12) and dished a Texas freshman record 14 assists, while All-Big 12 First Team selection Byars finished third in the league with 12 goals to go with 10 assists (tied for fourth in Big 12).
