THE MATCHUP — Texas heads into the final stretch of Southeastern Conference play, welcoming LSU to Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday evening. The Longhorns lead the all-time series over the Tigers, 4-1-1. Most recently, the two sides played a pair of contests in 2024 with the Longhorns claiming both a 3-1 victory in Baton Rouge before also downing the Tigers, 3-0, in the SEC Tournament three weeks later. Texas and LSU first squared off in 2001.
A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS — Prior to last week's match at Kentucky, Texas climbed up to No. 14 in the RPI. The Longhorns have earned a spot in the top-25 in five of the last six weeks, highlighted by being slotted at No. 16 by Top Drawer Soccer on Sept. 7.
LAST TIME OUT — Texas had its four-match unbeaten streak snapped on Friday night, falling to Kentucky, 3-2, at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex. The Longhorns raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Wildcats mounted a trio of tallies after the break to secure their first ranked victory of the season. Kyla Dawn delivered the game-winning strike in the 90th minute, mounting her team-leading 10th tally. Texas scored both of its goals over the first 28 minutes, sparked by reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Week Amalia Villarreal. Villarreal registered her third tally in two matches, rocketing a right-footed strike from 20 yards away. Villarreal ignited the visitors' second goal, sliding a through ball to a streaking Ava McDonald. On her first touch, McDonald ripped a cross in front of the net to find Audrey Bryant's right foot in stride. In the defeat, Texas outshot Kentucky, 12-11, highlighted by a 9-5 advantage in the first half.
LOCK IT DOWN — The Longhorns have been one of the strongest defensive teams nationally into the heart of conference play. Under one of the best defensive minds in collegiate soccer, Margueritte Bates' club has drawn its opponents offside 30 times in the last seven matches. Across their first six contests, the Longhorns forced their opposition offside on just seven occasions. As of Oct. 14, Texas has outscored its opponents, 24-13, while yielding just 4.4 shots on target per match. For only the third time in program history, Texas posted five clean sheets through its first seven matches. The 2026 squad is just the second Texas team to have allowed a school-best one tally through four contests alongside the 2008 squad. Meanwhile, senior Bayliss Flynn became just the second Longhorn goalkeeper to record back-to-back shutouts in their first two starts at Texas in the program's illustrious 33-year history, joining Dana Hall in 2003.
HOME SWEET HOME — Texas owns a 47-14-10 (.732) record at Mike A. Myers Stadium since the start of the 2020 season. The Longhorns have managed to win double-digit contests at home in three of the last four years, highlighted by a 10-1-2 campaign in 2024. Overall, Texas has posted a 200-65-29 (.730) ledger at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
