Baseball to retire Taylor Jungmann’s jersey number

The two-time first team All-American and 2011 Dick Howser Trophy Winner becomes eighth Longhorn baseball player to have his jersey retired.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball great Taylor Jungmann will have his jersey retired during the 2023 season, The University of Texas announced Saturday. A two-time first team All-American and the 2011 Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Year, Jungmann becomes the eighth former Texas Baseball star to have his jersey retired. The date of the jersey retirement ceremony has yet to be determined.
Jungmann's No. 26 joins fellow Longhorn greats Scott Bryant (25), Roger Clemens (21), Burt Hooton (20), Brooks Kieschnick (23), Keith Moreland (3), Greg Swindell (21) and Huston Street (25) in receiving this honor.
From 2009-11, Jungmann dominated the Big 12 Conference and the country, while writing his name all over the Texas Baseball record book. He ranks in the top 10 all-time at Texas with 355.2 innings pitched (6th), a 1.85 ERA (7th), 356 strikeouts (6th), a .188 opponents batting average (6th) and 32 wins (10th).
In 61 career appearances and 45 starts over three years for the Longhorns, he posted a 32-9 record with nine combined shutouts.
Jungmann's 2011 season, which earned him the Dick Howser Trophy, will go down as one of the best ever by a Longhorns pitcher. He logged 141.0 innings, the eighth-most in a season by a Texas pitcher, with five complete games. He recorded a 13-3 record with 126 strikeouts and a .165 opponents batting average, the fifth-best single season mark in Texas history.
He was a first team All-American in 2010, with 120.0 innings pitched and 129 strikeouts with an 8-3 record. He made 17 starts with one complete game and three combined shutouts.
As a freshman in 2009, Jungmann helped lead Texas to a runner up finish at the College World Series. He pitched 25 times with 10 starts and posted an 11-3 record with 101 strikeouts. He pitched six shutout innings against TCU in the Super Regional to send the Longhorns to the College World Series. He also tossed a complete game win against LSU in the CWS Finals.
Jungmann was selected with 12th overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched in three MLB seasons for the Brewers before playing a pair of seasons in Japan as part of Nippon Professional Baseball.
