Longhorns secure spot in 2026 NCAA Austin Regional final
AUSTIN, Texas — No. 1 seed Texas totaled five home runs to top No. 3 seed Tarleton State, 16-2, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday evening.
With the victory, the Longhorns (42-13) secured their spot in the Austin Regional final. Texas will face the winner of second-seeded UC Santa Barbara (39-19) and the Texans (38-20) at 5 p.m. Sunday.
After tying a program-record with six blasts in the tournament's opener, the Longhorns mounted their third five-homer game of the season.
Five different Texas players left the yard, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back jacks in the second.
Aiden Robbins sparked the derby, delivering a 443-foot three-run moonshot over the left-field scoreboard. Robbins' team-leading 22nd homer vaulted the Longhorns ahead, 4-0.
Two pitches later, Carson Tinney tattooed a 426-foot jack over the 32-foot "Monster" for a single-season best fifth time since the ballpark's inception in 1975. Tinney's 21st blast is the fifth-most in a campaign in school history.
Anthony Pack Jr. punctuated the five-run frame, smacking an opposite-field shot into the YETI Yard in left-center field. Pack Jr., who became the first Texas player with three home runs in a postseason contest on Friday, circled the bases for the fourth time in his first five career at-bats in the NCAA Tournament.
The trio became the first set of Longhorns to notch three consecutive homers since Silas Ardoin, Skyler Messinger and Dylan Campbell accomplished the feat against Oklahoma State on May 1, 2022.
Ethan Mendoza and Adrian Rodriguez also flexed their muscles, socking a solo shot each. Mendoza launched a blast in the third, while Rodriguez rocketed a laser in the eighth.
Texas drew a season-high 17 walks in the victory, including seven free passes in the fourth. The Longhorns scored five times without registering a hit in the inning.
Across its first two games in the Austin Regional, Texas has tallied 35 runs, which marks its most in consecutive postseason contests ever. The Longhorns have outscored their opponents, 35-3.
Texas ace Dylan Volantis (9-1) tossed 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball. Volantis struck out seven batters and scattered three hits in front of 8,276 fans, the third-largest crowd for a non-exhibition tilt at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
As a staff, the Longhorns fanned nine batters to bump their season total to 619 punchouts, breaking a 41-year-old single-season program record set in 1985.
Texas is now 155-60-1 (.720) all-time in regional games, including a 112-33-1 (.771) ledger in Austin.
