No. 13 Women’s Golf concludes opening round at NCAA Championship

Graduate Brigitte Thibault paced the Longhorns with a three-over-par 75 on the opening round at the Grayhawk Golf Club.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The No. 13 Texas Women's Golf team shot a 17-over-par 305 on Friday and is in 19th place after the opening round of the NCAA Championship at the Grayhawk Golf Club. Graduate Brigitte Thibault was the low Longhorn on the day with a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 45th in the individual standings.
In addition to the Longhorns (No. 13 in the final WGCA Coaches Poll of the season, released on May 6, 2022), the 24-team NCAA Championship field includes: No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 5 San Jose State, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Alabama, No. 10 UCLA, No. 11 USC, No. 14 LSU, No. 15 Florida State, No. 16 Baylor, No. 17 Texas A&M, No. 18 Auburn, No. 19 Michigan, No. 21 Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State, Purdue, TCU and Vanderbilt.
No. 1 Stanford holds the lead in the team field at one-over-par 289, while No. 17 Texas A&M is in second at four-over-par 292 and No. 10 UCLA is third at seven-over-par 295.
Rose Zhang of Stanford is the leader in the individual standings after shooting a four-under-par 68 in the opening round. Texas A&M's Zoe Slaughter is in second at three-under-par 69, while a group of three players are tied for third at one-under-par 71.
The NCAA Championship continues with 18 holes of stroke play each on Saturday, May 21st and Sunday, May 22nd. The top-15 teams following Sunday will compete in an additional 18-hole stroke play round on Monday, May 23rd. The top-eight teams will then compete in match play on Tuesday, May 24th and Wednesday, May 25th. UT will again be paired with No. 11 USC and No. 15 Florida State for Saturday's second round, with tee times beginning at 9:25 a.m. CT on hole 10.
The Lineup
- Graduate Brigitte Thibault shot a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 45th in the individual standings. Thibault recorded three birdies (No. 6, par-4; No. 17, par-4; No. 18, par-5) during the first round.
- Freshman Bohyun Park fired a four-over-par 76 and is tied for 55th in the individual standings. Park also registered three birdies (No. 3, par-4; No. 7, par-5; No. 18, par-5) on the day.
- Senior Sara Kouskova scored a five-over-par 77 to put her in a tie for 81st place in the individual standings. Kouskova tallied one birdie (No. 17, par-4) during the opening round.
- Junior Sophie Guo carded a five-over-par 77 and is tied for 81st in the individual standings. Guo led the team with four birdies (No. 4, par-5; No. 7, par-5; No. 16, par-3; No. 18, par-5) on the day.
- Sophomore Bentley Cotton posted a seven-over-par 79 and is tied for 100th in the individual standings. Cotton recorded one birdie (No. 13, par-3) on Friday.
