Longhorn freshman Bohyun Park has been selected to play in the U.S. Women’s Open, her second LPGA Tour event in 2022 and second straight selection to the U.S. Open field.
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas freshman Bohyun Park will be a part of the U.S. Women's Open field for the second year in a row, and is set to compete in her second major Women's LPGA Tour event this season. Park earned a U.S. Women's Open spot as the first alternate in the Richardson, Texas qualifier at Canyon Creek Country Club on April 28, shooting a 36-hole total of 137 to finish tied for third. The U.S. Women's Open, one of the five major championships of professional women's golf, will take place at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5. Park also played against the LPGA's best at the Chevron Championship earlier this year.
Fresh off a freshman season at Texas where she posted three top-five finishes, including a runner-up performance at the Darius Rucker Collegiate and tied for third-place at the Big 12 Championship, Park posted a stroke average of 72.57 in her first collegiate season. The Big 12 All-Tournament honoree led the Longhorns with 15 rounds at par or better on the season and was tied for the team lead with five rounds in the 60s. In her first year on campus, she helped lead UT to the Big 12 Championship, a second-place showing at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, and a berth in the NCAA Championship where the Horns finished tied for 13th. Off the course, she also was a member of the Fall 2021 Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
This will be Park's second straight season playing in the U.S. Women's Open. As a senior at Ranchview High School in Farmers Branch, Texas, she qualified for the 2021 U.S. Women's Open by shooting a two-under-par 142 at the Golf Club of Houston (Humble, Texas) last May. In two rounds at the 2021 U.S. Women's Open, Park registered a 36-hole score of 154 (76-78).
"Getting into the Women's U.S. Open is an incredible accomplishment. To get in two straight years at a young age is simply amazing," said Texas head coach Ryan Murphy. "I am very proud of Bohyun Park and look forward to supporting her next week when she tees it up with the best in the world again."
This will also be the rising sophomores second major tour event in 2022 after receiving a special sponsors invitation to participate in the LPGA Chevron Championship in April. Park finished the event tied for second among the five amateurs in the field after shooting three-under-par 69 on day two of the event to put her at two-over-par 146 over 36 holes.
The U.S. Women's Open will be featured on NBC, USA Network and Peacock.
