Women's Track and Field advances 14 entries to NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On the final day of the NCAA West Preliminaries, Texas' No. 1 women's track and field program solidified 14 entries to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Julien Alfred, Kevona Davis, Kynnedy Flannel and Rhasidat Adeleke led the way by qualifying in three separate events.
The four were the first group to qualify for Nationals on Saturday with the second-fastest 4x100 relay time of 43.00. The Longhorns entered the meet with the NCAA-leading time at 42.35.
Alfred later followed up with the fastest 100m-qualifying time at 10.80w. Davis finished sixth at 11.04, while Flannel made it a perfect three-for-three with her time of 11.06.
Flannel and Davis added their final individual qualifications in the 200m with Flannel posting the fastest time at 22.40. Davis was just behind her in second with a time of 22.49. Adeleke qualified for her first individual event running a time of 22.60.
Two of the three fastest 400m times belonged to the Longhorns as Stacey Ann Williams charged forward with her time of 50.66. Kennedy Simon closed in third with a time of 50.96
Later, Valery Tobias ran a personal-best time of 2:02.14 in the 800m, which ranked as the No. 2 time in Texas history.
Milan Young was the final individual to qualify on the track as she finished the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.90.
Both Tyra Gittens and Ackelia Smith qualified for their second individual event for the lone field event qualifications of the day.
Gittens advanced in the high jump clearing 1.81m (5-11.25). Six of the 12 qualifiers all cleared 1.81m to advance to the finals.
Smith continues her historic season with the top mark in the triple jump at 14.08m (46-2.50). The jump bests her previous Texas program record, is the collegiate-leading mark and is the best mark in NCAA West Prelims history.
The final event to qualify for Nationals was the women's 4x400 relay of Simon, Adeleke, Alfred and Williams. The group ran the second-fastest time at 3:25.93.
The Longhorns qualified all four relays to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after both the men's and women's 4x100 and 4x400 advances.
