No. 9 Men’s Golf moves up two spots on day two at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — The No. 9 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 7-over-par 287 on Saturday to climb two spots into a tie for 12th place in the team standings following the second round of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club (North Course). Freshman Christiaan Maas tallied a 2-over-par 72 in his second round and is tied for 28th in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 4-over-par 144 (72-72).
The 15-team field at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational features 10 teams that are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Sept. 9). No. 15 Stanford holds the 36-hole team lead with a two-round total of 9-under-par 551 (270-281), equaling the team 36-hole low in tourney history. No. 5 Arizona State is second at 2-under-par 558 (285-273), while No. 11 and tourney host Illinois is third at 1-under-par 559 (271-288). The Longhorns have a two-round score of 19-over-par 579 (292-287).
Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinios holds the 36-hole individual lead at 8-under-par 132 (65-67), while Arizona State's Ryggs Johnston is second at 6-under-par 134 (70-64). Tommy Kuhl of Illinois is third at 5-under-par 135 (67-68).
The OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Sunday, September 18. Texas will be paired with Northwestern and Army for Sunday's final round, and tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. Central off the 10th tee.
The Lineup
- Freshman Christiaan Maas carded a 2-over-par 72 on Saturday and is tied for 28th in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 4-over-par 144 (72-72). Maas carded three birdies during his second round and was at 1-under for the day through 15 holes.
- One day after posting a 9-over-par 79 in his collegiate debut, freshman Keaton Vo paced the Longhorns on Saturday with a 1-over-par 71 and climbed 11 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 63rd at 10-over-par 150 (79-71). Vo registered three birdies during his second round and was at 1-under for the day through 13 holes.
- Senior Travis Vick fired a 5-over-par 75 on Saturday and is tied for 37th at 5-over-par 145 (70-75).
- Freshman Jacob Sosa recorded a 2-over-par 72 in his second round and is tied for 42nd at 6-over-par 146 (74-72), while senior Mason Nome also tallied a 2-over-par 72 on Saturday and is tied for 54th at 8-over-par 148 (76-72). Nome was 1-under for the day through 10 holes in his second round.
