Eleven Longhorns named to USA Swimming National Team

Eight Longhorn men were selected while three from the women’s team will be representing Team USA.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming announced its 2022-23 roster on Wednesday, which includes 11 current and former swimmers from The University of Texas Men's and Women's Swimming teams.
The men's squad features five current Longhorns in Carson Foster, David Johnston, Jake Foster, Luke Hobson and Alec Enyeart and a trio of Texas Ex's in Drew Kibler, Will Licon and Sam Stewart. With eight swimmers on the team, Texas has the largest representation of any program in the nation. The women's team will have current Longhorns Kelly Pash, Lydia Jacoby and Dakota Luther will all represent the United States this coming year.
Carson Foster won silver in the 400 IM at the FINA World Championships with a UT record 4:065.56, the 11th-fastest time ever for an American, after winning gold in the event at the USA Swimming International Team Trails. He is also set to compete in the 200 fly after swimming the third-fastest 200m fly by an American at the Speedo Southern Sectionals with a time of 1:53.67, the fastest mark by an American since Michael Phelps in 2016. In all, Foster will represent the United States in five events, as he will also race in the 200 IM, 200 back and 200 free.
Johnston qualified in three events, the 800 free, 1500 free and 400 IM. He won silver in the 1500m free at the Phillips 66 National Championships in 15:02.37, and had a pair of top-four performances at the International Team Trials, placing third in the 800 free (7:54.40) and fourth in the 400 IM (4:13.24).
Jake Foster will compete in two events, the 200 breast and 400 IM, after earning a silver medal in the 200 breast (2:09.00) at the National Championships and taking fifth in the 400 IM (4:13.76) at the International Team Trials.
Hobson won the 200 free national title at the 2022 Phillips 66 National Championships with a time of 1:46.14 and followed that with a personal-best mark of 1:45.59 at last month's Dual in the Pool in Australia.
Enyeart earned a spot in the 1500 free after a dominate permeance at the NCSA Summer Championships, winning by more than 20 seconds with a time of 15:05.10.
Kibler was selected for the 100 free and 200 free. He placed fourth in the 200 free at the FINA World Championships with a personal-best 1:45.01, while posting a fourth-place result in the 100 free with a time of 48.25 at the International Team Trials.
Licon will represent Team USA, earning a spot with his season-best 2:09.13 at this summer's nationals, and Stewart qualified in the 200 IM after clocking a 1:56.91 at the Futures Championships.
On the women's side, Pash earned spots in the 100 and 200 fly. She clocked a 100 fly program-record of 57.73 for a victory at the Speedo Sections in Austin and posted a personal-best 2:08.39 in the 200 fly to finish fourth at the U.S. National Championships.
Jacoby also was also selected for a pair of events and will represent the United States in the 100 breast and 200 breast. The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist in the 100 breast, she will compete for Team USA in the event once again after swimming a 1:06.21 at the International Trials. She won gold in the 200 breast at the Monaco stop of the Mare Nostrum Tour, touching the wall in 2:25.98 to earn a second spot with the team.
Luther won gold in the 200 fly at the Phillips 66 National Championships in July, posting a personal-best 2:07.02 to earn a national team spot in the event.
Additionally, a trio of swimmers who train with in Austin were selected to the teams. Shaine Casas and Charlie Swanson, who train with men's head coach Eddie Reese, and Leah Smith, who trains with women's head coach Carol Capitani, were named to the squads. Casas, the reigning national champion in the 100 fly, will compete in the 100 free, 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly and 100 IM, and Swanson will swim the 100 breast and 200 breast. Smith, who won the national championship in the 200 IM and earned 400 free bronze at the FINA World Championships, will represent the United States in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 200 IM and 400 IM.
