First Time Out: The Longhorns finished in sixth place at the season-opening ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The Horns competed in a field with nine teams ranked in the top-13 of the WGCA Coaches Poll. Freshman Farah O'Keefe led the Longhorns with a T5 finish and a score of seven-under-par. That round tied the best score a Longhorn has shot at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. In the second round of the event, Texas shot an eight-under-par 280.
Head Coach Ryan Murphy: Head Coach Ryan Murphy is in his 10th season at the helm of the program. Murphy has guided Texas the NCAA Championship in each of the last seven years, something only three other programs have done. Murphy is a four time Big 12 Coach of the Year. He led the Horns to three-straight Big 12 titles for the first time in program history from 2017-19 and the 2022 title and was named Big 12 Coach of the Year in each of those seasons. The Longhorns have advanced to the match play portion at the NCAA Champion in three of the last four seasons.
2022-23 Season: The Longhorns are coming off their seventh straight NCAA Championship appearance and runner-up finish in stroke play at the 2023 NCAA Championship. The Longhorns won two events in the 2022-23 season, the Cactus Cup match play event and the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The Horns have made 31 appearances in the NCAA Championship and have captured 17 conference championships between the Southwest and Big 12 conferences.
Coming back: Texas returns three of their four All-Big 12 selections from the 2022-23 team in sophomores Cindy Hsu and Angela Heo and senior Bentley Cotton. Hsu finished in 10thplace at the 2023 NCAA Championship to become the 19th Longhorn with a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championship. Heo fired a six-under-par 66 in the second round of the NCAA Championship to establish a program record for low round at the NCAA Championship. Cotton finished T9 in the NCAA Palm Beach Regional. The Longhorns return Bohyun Park, who competed in the Augusta National Women's Amateur in 2023.
Newcomers: Texas brings in a trio of talented freshmen to the roster for the 2023-24 season. Lauren Kim captured the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship and qualified for the U.S. Women's Open Championship at Pebble Beach this summer. Fellow freshman Farah O'Keefe also qualified for the U.S. Women's Open Championship. Selina Liao comes to Austin for her collegiate career. Liao was the winner of the Callaway Junior World Championship in 2021.
