Texas set to make first round trip to the Space City to play Houston since 2011
AUSTIN, Texas – It's been over a decade since the Texas and Houston women's soccer programs have met on the pitch, but the 4,438-day streak will come to an end when the two programs faceoff at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Matt Pederson (play by play) and Alex Parra (analyst) will have the broadcast call on ESPN+, while Alexx Holmes will serve as the sideline reporter.
KICKING OFF
- Texas' junior midfielder Lexi Missimo will enter Sunday afternoon's match as the only Division I women's student-athlete in the nation to average both 1.00 assist per match (1.00) and 1.00-or-more goals per match (1.06) at this point of the 2023 season.
- Against the Big 12 Conference's four newcomers this season, Texas has a 1-1-0 overall record with a plus-1 goal differential (5-4):
- L, 2-3, vs. then-No. 6 BYU on Monday, Sept. 25
- W, 3-1, at UCF on Thursday, Oct. 5
- In both of those matches, Lexi Missimo has netted four goals: two against the Cougars and two against the Golden Knights.
- Ashlyn Miller has the lone other goal — the 18th minute of the Longhorns' 3-1 victory in Orlando — to complete to five-goal set.
- In both of those matches, Lexi Missimo has netted four goals: two against the Cougars and two against the Golden Knights.
- With her next win in goal, first-year Longhorn Mia Justus will earn her 11th win on the season, tying Savannah Madden (2021) and Alexa Gaul (2010, 2011) for the ninth-most wins by a goalkeeper in the program's single-season history.
- Sunday's match will mark the first time Texas has played a Texas-based program following a loss since playing Texas A&M in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
- The then-No. 16 Longhorns entered the Nov. 11 meeting following a 1-0 result against West Virginia in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship and went on to knock off the Aggies, 3-1, to advance to play then-No. 8 Duke in the second round.
