Hobson leads No. 7 Men's Swim & Dive on day one at No. 15 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Texas men's swim and dive team competed in a close matchup with the No. 15 men's Virginia team after 10 scored events on day one of the dual meet.
Luke Hobson continued his dominant career leading Texas with 18 points and only 10 points back from Virginia, 99-89 on day one. Hobson began the afternoon winning the 200 free with a time of 1:35.96 and added a win in the 500 free with his time of 4:27.33.

Spencer Aurnou-Rhees finished third in the 200 free with his time of 1:37.97, scoring three points.
Freshman Will Modglin won the first "Super Final" of the night in the 100 back, scoring the winner-take-all five points against Will Cole with his time of 47.16. Alec Filipovic won the open 100 back at 47.92 and Nathan Quarterman finished third at 48.76.

Will Scholtz paced the open 100 breast with his time of 54.24, scoring the only points in the events for Texas. Senior Peter Paulus won the first heat of the 50 free Super Final with his time of 20.42 and tallied five points.
Freshman Nate Germonprez won his Super Final in the 100 IM against former Texas swimmer Tim Connery with his time of 48.45. Filipovic was second in the open 100 IM at 49.99 and Aurnou-Rhees was third at 50.70.
Texas tallied six points in the 100 fly from Holden Smith's third-place finish (48.96), Modglin in fourth (48.98) and Ryan Branon in fifth at 50.24.
The Longhorns claimed the top-four spots on the 3-meter competition with Nick Harris leading in first with 416.40 points. Noah Duperre finished as the runner-up with 390.30 points, Pierce Brooke was third at 364.73 and Brendan McCourt in fourth at 357.83.
Texas returns to regular programming Saturday in the diving at 8 a.m. CT.
