Trinity Byars earns sixth career offensive weekly league honor, surpassing Cyera Hintzen’s program mark
AUSTIN, Texas – For the second time this season, forward Trinity Byars has been selected as the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon. Her recognition comes after being named the conference's co-offensive player of the week on Aug. 23.
Byars registered her sixth career brace with a two-goal performance during the second half of Texas' 2-1 victory at Kansas on Sunday, Oct. 1. She concluded the week tied atop the Big 12 in total points (4), total goals (2), points per match (2.0) and goals per match (1.0).
Byars' second goal against the Jayhawks came off a pass from midfielder Lexi Missimo, who broke the program's single-season assist record on the play and marked the 18th career time Byars has scored on a pass from Missimo.
The Richardson, Texas native now joins Lexi Missimo as the only active Longhorn women's soccer student-athletes to earn the league's top offensive weekly honor multiple times this season. Missimo picked up the honor on Sept. 6 and Sept. 13.
With Wednesday morning's honor, Byars has now been selected as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on six different occasions, which passes Cyera Hintzen (5) for the most by any Longhorn women's soccer student-athlete. If Byars picks up the recognition, again, this season, she will become the first student-athlete in program history to be selected as the league's top offensive player of the week three separate times in multiple seasons throughout a career on the Forty Acres.
