Ovrootsky named singles champion of Texas A&M Invitational

Sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky went 2-1 in singles over the three-day tournament in College Station.
College Station, Texas – Texas Women's Tennis sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky was named a singles champion following the Texas A&M Invitational that took place in College Station from Nov. 3-6.
Ovrootsky finished the weekend with a 2-1 record, including wins over Kaila Barksdale of Utah, 6-2, 6-4, on Friday, and Catherine Aulia of Tennessee, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, on Sunday. Her only defeat came to a ranked player in #94 Daria Smetannikov of Texas A&M in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7), on Saturday.
Senior Taisiya Pachkaleva earned one win over the weekend, downing Eleonora Molinaro of Tennessee, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3, on Sunday, after falling to Morgan Cross of Arkansas, 7-6 (6), 6-4, on Friday, and Jeanette Mireles of Texas A&M in a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6), on Saturday.
Freshman Maddie MacNeille also competed, dropping her opening match to Kayal Gownder of Texas A&M, 6-1, 6-1, on Friday, before retiring from a match against Elise Robbins of Texas A&M after she had won the first set, 6-4, on Saturday.
Ovrootsky and Pachkaleva also participated in doubles, defeating Kacie Harvey and Morgan Cross of Arkansas, 6-4, on Saturday after being edged by Aulia and Molinaro of Tennessee, 7-5, on Friday.
