Texas will look for 25th win in home-opening softball games in program history when Longhorns host Cardinals
AUSTIN, TX – Following a four-game slate in the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic last weekend, The University of Texas' softball program returns to the friendly confines of Red & Charline McCombs Field for a mid-week contest against the Lamar Cardinals at 6 PM CT on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
LEADING OFF
- Wednesday's matchup between Texas and Lamar will mark the fourth consecutive season the two softball programs have met on a softball diamond with the Longhorns having won the previous three contests against the Cardinals.
- Wednesday's game will mark the seventh all-time meeting between the Texas and Lamar softball programs with all games being played in Austin, Texas.
- The Longhorns hold an all-time record of 5-1 against the Cardinals heading into Wednesday's action.
- The Lamar softball program is led by former All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year, Amy Hooks, who guided the Texas Longhorn program to the NCAA Regional Championships all four seasons.
- Following her Texas playing career, Hook went on to compete for the NY/NJ Comets and Carolina Diamonds of the National Pro Fastpitch league.
- Hook graduated Texas with a bachelor of science in December 2011.
- Wednesday will mark the 27th all-time home-opening contest for the Texas softball program.
- The Longhorns hold a 24-2 all-time record in home-opening games dating back to the program's first home game on Feb. 22, 1997, when the Longhorns beat Northwood, 8-0, in five innings.
- Coming off its previous two home-opening losses (2007, 2014), Texas has bounced back with winning streaks of six (2008-13) and eight (2015-P).
- Texas is currently riding an eight-game winning streak in home-opening games dating back to a 12-0 win over IPFW in five innings on Feb. 13, 2015.
- Texas will enter Wednesday's softball game against Lamar with an all-time home record of 553-149-3 (.787).
- Of those 553 home victories, 539 have occurred at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
- The Longhorns played 21 home games (14-7, .667) and the East Austin Youth Complex during the 1997 season.

- Leighann Goode will enter Wednesday's game against Lamar with a four-game hitting streak to begin her collegiate softball career.
- Goode is one of 12 student-athletes in program history to record a hitting streak of four-or-more games to start a freshman year.
- Goode joins Courtney Day (six games; Feb. 6-13, 2020) and Jordyn Whitaker (five; Feb. 21-27, 2021) as the only active Longhorn softball student-athletes to have achieved the feat.
- Janae Jefferson holds the program record for the longest hitting streak to start a freshman year with an eight-game streak from Feb. 9 to Feb. 17, 2018.
- Goode is one of 12 student-athletes in program history to record a hitting streak of four-or-more games to start a freshman year.
