Two showdowns against No. 10/12 Virginia Tech highlight Texas’ four-game weekend slate.
AUSTIN, TX – A pair of games against No. 10/12 Virginia Tech highlights The University of Texas' weekend softball schedule when the Longhorns host the Lone Star State Invitational.
Texas (8-1-1) will host Abilene Christian, Texas Southern, Virginia Tech as well as Kansas, which will play a one-off game against Texas Southern on Sunday, Feb. 26. The Jayhawks will play its other four games on the weekend at Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos, while the Longhorns, Wildcats, Tigers and Hokies will play a four-team round robin tournament at Red & Charline McCombs Field beginning on Friday, Feb. 24.

LEADING OFF
- This weekend's set of four home games will continue Texas' run of 16 consecutive games played at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
- Following a mid-week game at UTA on Wednesday, March 8, the Longhorns will return to Austin for an additional five home games.
- By Sunday, March 26, Texas will have played 25 of its first 36 games this season at home.
- Leighann Goode will enter Friday afternoon's game against Virginia Tech with the ninth-longest hitting streak in program history, in terms of games.
- Goode's current 10-game hitting streak is the 40th different hitting streak in program history to span 10-or-more games.
- Mary Iakopo was the last Texas softball student-athlete to have a hitting streak of 10 games or longer when she accomplished the feat from April 30 to May 22, 2022.
- Mia Scott is the only other active Longhorn softball student-athlete to have a hitting streak to span 10-or-more games when she did so in 10 games from Feb. 19 to March 5, 2022.
- Goode's current 10-game hitting streak is the 40th different hitting streak in program history to span 10-or-more games.
- With a pair of games against Virginia Tech this weekend, Texas will be looking for its first win over a nationally ranked non-conference opponent at home during the regular season since knocking off then-No.20/18 LSU, 11-10, on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
- The Longhorns' one-run win over the Tigers capped a three-game sweep for Texas that weekend.
- Texas will enter its third weekend of action with three softball student-athletes sitting atop the Big 12 Conference in the hit column.
- Leighann Goode (19), Mia Scott (17) and Viviana Martinez (16) are ranked first through third, respectively, in the league.
- Katie Cimusz is the next Longhorn featured on the list as the sophomore has been credited with 10 hits in 24 plate appearances, good enough for the 17th-most in the conference.

- Entering this weekend, Mac Morgan's two walks issued are the fewest by a Big 12 softball student-athlete to have thrown 14-or-more innings so far this season.
- Morgan's 8:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio is also the highest by any softball student-athlete in the conference.
- By virtue of having only one strikeout in 33 plate appearance so far this season, Texas freshman Leighann Goode is the toughest softball student-athlete in the Big 12 Conference to strikeout.
- Nationally, Goode is the seventh-toughest Division I softball student-athlete to strikeout heading into this weekend.
- Texas' .389 team batting average is the highest in the Big 12 Conference and fifth highest in the nation.
- Baylor is second in the league with a .373 team batting average.
- Estelle Czech (1.40) and Mac Morgan (1.75) have the second and third lowest earned run average in the Big 12 Conference among student-athletes with 20-or-more innings pitched.
