Alfred bests own NCAA 60m Collegiate Record
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 8/3 Texas track and field team set two program records, posted a world-leading time and made its way onto the All-Time performance list on the final day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
Julien Alfred and Rhasidat Adeleke set world-leading times and collegiate records for the second time this season at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Alfred, who entered the day with the second-fastest time in the world and the NCAA lead in the 60m at 7.02, broke her own program record, again. Her time of 7.05 in the prelims matched her No. 3 performance on the Texas All-Time list before breaking the NCAA record. Finishing with her time of 7.00, Alfred now holds seven of the top-10 times in Texas history. The time also ranks as the St. Lucia National Record.
Sophomore Kevona Davis finished fourth with a personal-best time of 7.22, breaking into the Texas All-Time list at No. 10, while transfers Ezinne Abba finished fifth at 7.29 seconds and Lanae-Tava Thomas in seventh (7.34).
Adeleke set yet another world-leading time in New Mexico with her winning 400m dash time of 50.45. The time ranks as the No. 3 in NCAA history, the Ireland National Record and broke 11-time All-American Courtney Okolo's program record she set in 2016.
Kennedy Simon also improved her No. 3 time on the Texas All-Time list finishing second with her time of 51.11. Adeleke and Simon now have the top-two times in the NCAA.
Continuing on the track, Jonathan Jones won the men's 400m dash with his time of 45.83, the No. 2 time in the NCAA this year. He now has six of the top-10 times in Texas history after recording the fourth-fastest on Saturday.
