No. 9/10 Softball tallies 11th, 12th straight win

Behind stellar pitching performances from Citlaly Guiterrez, Mac Morgan and Estelle Czech, Texas beats Wisconsin and Alabama
AUSTIN, TX – The University of Texas softball program opened this weekend's Bevo Classic round-robin tournament with back-to-back wins as the Longhorns knocked off Wisconsin, 5-1, and No. 13/9 Alabama, 5-3, Friday.
FROM HEAD COACH MIKE WHITE
"Well, I think any time you go up against Montana Fouts, it's going to be a tough game. Alabama and the program it has been over the last two decades, tonight was tough but it was nice to be able to put up some runs on the scoreboard tonight, especially with the way Mac Morgan started out. I mean, I think she had a no-hitter going for four-or-so innings and then Estelle Czech coming in and closing the door, it was just a good day all around."
FROM FRESHMAN LEIGHANN GOODE
"Sticking to our plan was huge today. We never really thought outside of the zone and just stuck to our plan and didn't let the opposing pitchers be able to execute their game plans. We were struggling early in the Wisconsin game by chasing at stuff, but we focused back in and found a way to get the win."
GAME NOTES
- In each of Texas' wins on Friday, both Longhorn starting pitchers took a no-hitter deep in the game.
- Against Wisconsin, Citlaly Gutierrez (6-1) did not allow a hit until a one-out double in the top of the sixth.
- Later in the evening, it was a two-out single to left field in the top of the fifth that got Alabama into the hit column against Mac Morgan (7-0).
- During Texas' five-run bottom of the third against Alabama, Courtney Day was issued her second intentional walk in the last four games.
- Day was also intentionally walked in the bottom of the sixth inning in the Longhorns' win over Louisiana on Sunday, March 5.
- For the seventh time in eight games against ranked foes, Texas true freshman Leighann Goode was credited with two hits in four plate appearances against Alabama.
- On the day, Goode recorded four hits, two RBI, two runs scored, a double and a triple in eight official at bats.
- With her four RBIs across two games, Longhorn freshman Viviana Martinez has driven in at least one run in 11 of her last 14 games dating back to a two-RBI performance against UIW on Sunday, Feb. 19.
- During that same 14-game span, Texas is 13-1 with its only loss being an eight-inning contest against then-No. 10 Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 24.
- By working 2.1 innings of scoreless softball to close the door on Texas' win over Alabama, Estelle Czech (S, 1) earned her first career collegiate save.
UP NEXT
- After picking up wins over Wisconsin (11-7) and Alabama (19-4) on Friday, Texas (20-2-1) will look to repeat the outcome when the Longhorns play the Badgers and Crimson Tide, again, on Saturday at 4 PM and 6:30 PM, respectively.
