Boyle, Sticklen earn Academic All-America honors

Janie Boyle and Emma Sticklen collect third-team honors for academic and athletic success.
AUSTIN, Texas – National runner-up Women's Swimming and Diving's Janie Boyle and Emma Sticklen have been named Academic All-Americans, the College Sports Communicators announced Monday. The first national academic accolade for both Longhorns, Boyle and Sticklen were each named to the Division I Academic All-America Third Team.
Boyle and Sticklen are the first Longhorns to be selected Academic All-Americans since Claire Adams and Alison Gibson in 2020. Texas has had two student-athletes recognized as Academic All-Americans for the eighth time in program history and second time since 2008.
Sticklen is the 2023 NCAA National Champion in the 200-yard butterfly, winning gold at last week's national meet with a program-record time of 1:49.95, while also establishing meet and pool records. The junior is the fourth-fastest performer all-time in the 200-yard butterfly and the time of 1:49.95 is the fourth-fastest swim in the history of the event.
The Katy, Texas product also swam the butterfly leg in Texas' program-record swims in the 200 medley relay (1:33.22) and 400 medley relay (3:25.18) at the NCAA Championships, winning bronze in both. Sticklen added All-American honors in the 100 fly (50.15; 5th) and 200 IM (1:54.09; 6th) at the national meet. She is the program record-holder in the 100 fly (49.79) with six of the top-nine swims in program history, and her 200 IM NCAA Championship swim was the 11th-fastest in program history and moved her to number four and Texas' All-Time Performer rankings. Sticklen is an exercise science major with a cumulative GPA of 3.73. An 11-time All-American, she was named a first team CSCAA Scholar All-American in 2022-23 and to the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Boyle, a three-time first-team CSCAA Academic All-American honoree, won the 2023 Big 12 Championship title on platform. The Pepper Pike, Ohio native had 10 top-three performances during the 2022-23 season on 1-meter, 3-meter and platform. In addition to her 2023 Big 12 Championship on platform, she won on 1-meter against SMU and had a runner-up performance on platform at the Texas Diving Invitational.
She won silver with Team USA at the 2022 FINA Diving Grand Prix Canada Cup, placing second on synchronized platform with partner Nike Agunbiade. Boyle is a two-time All-American on platform (2020, 2022) and one-time Honorable Mention All-American (2021). A biochemistry major with 3.90 cumulative GPA, Boyle is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and a two-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Boyle and Sticklen are the 21st and 22nd Longhorns from Women's Swimming and Diving to be named to the Academic All-America first, second or third teams and brings the total honors to 27 in program history. The 2022-23 academic year marks the first year in which swimming & diving has taken part in sport-specific voting after previously being included among the At-Large contests.
