Baseball walks off for sweep of No. 14 Texas Tech

Garret Guillemette hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to complete the sweep.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball picked up its second-straight walk-off win, beating No. 14 Texas Tech 9-8 to complete the sweep of the Red Raiders on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (18-7, 3-0) went into the bottom of the ninth tied for the second-straight day when Garret Guillemette stepped to the plate and blasted a 407-foot walk-off home run to left field.
Ace Whitehead picked up the win in relief, improving to 2-0 on the season, after pitching 1.1 innings and allowing one run and striking out two batters.
Peyton Powell and Jared Thomas both went 3-for-4 at the plate, with Powell hitting two homers and driving in four runs and Thomas hitting his first career homer.
Both teams used six total pitchers in the game, with the Longhorns using Charlie Hurley, Sam Walbridge, Andre Duplantier II, Chris Stuart, Cody Howard and Whitehead.
Texas grabbed an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Powell in the bottom of the first inning. Rylan Galvan added a run to the lead in the second with an opposite field solo home run to make the score 3-0.
Texas Tech got a run on the board in the fourth inning, using a trio of free passes and a sacrifice fly to score the run. Hurley got a big strikeout to end the inning without any more damage done.
The Longhorns hit two more homers in the fourth to bring their total to four in the game and extend the lead to 5-1. Thomas launched his first career homer out to right field and Powell hit his second opposite field shot of the day.
The Red Raiders got another run in the sixth on a solo homer to cut the lead to 5-2. The Longhorns came right back and added two more runs on two hits and a slew of free passes. Thomas started the inning with a single before Galvan and Eric Kennedy walked to load the bases. Powell hit an RBI single and Dylan Campbell worked an RBI walk to make the score 7-2.
The teams traded runs in the seventh inning, with Thomas hitting an RBI single to drive in Porter Brown to make the score 8-3 through seven innings.
Texas Tech put together a four-run eighth inning to cut the Longhorns lead to 8-7 before Whitehead came out of the bullpen to get out of the jam. The Red Raiders knotted the game up 8-8 in the top of the ninth, starting the inning with a leadoff triple.
Texas will head on the road for the first time in three weeks, heading to take on Texas A&M on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in College Station.
