Women’s Sprint Medley Relay breaks collegiate record at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays

Women’s 4x100 sets fastest pre-April time in collegiate history.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas women kept the track hot setting collegiate records on the third day of the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist.
The women of Julien Alfred, Rhasidat Adeleke, Kennedy Simon and Valery Tobias shattered the collegiate record in the sprint medley relay by over two seconds with a time of 3:36.10, breaking Texas A&M's previous time of 3:38.93 set here at the Texas Relays last season. Alfred split 22.4 in the opening 200-meter leg, followed by Adeleke's 21.7 split on the second 200-meter before Simon split an impressive 49.9 in the 400-meter leading into the anchor leg. Tobias closed the deal for the Longhorns with a time of 2:01.6 helping the Longhorns break the program record at the Texas Relays for the second-straight season.

The men's team of Marcellus Moore, Nolton Shelvin, Jonathan Jones and Yusuf Bizimana finished second in the SMR with a time of 3:14.81, just off the top-five best times in UT history.
Earlier in the relays, the women's 4x100 set the fastest time ever recorded in college prior to the month of April with a time of 42.38. Alfred, Ezinne Abba, Adeleke and Kevona Davis' time ranks as the fourth-fastest time in Texas history. Friday's team had three returners of the 2022 NCAA 4x100 champion group in Alfred, Adeleke and Davis. The group will in Saturday's Carlette Guidry 4x100 final scheduled for 1:34 p.m.
Davis also advanced to the 100-meter final, winning Heat 5 with a time of 11.18.
Sophomore Ackelia Smith continued her dominant jumping career for Texas by needing only one jump to be crowned the 2023 Texas Relays triple jump champion. Smith's first jump went for 13.84m (45-5) giving her the fourth all-time best performance in Texas history. The five-time All American now has the top-six outdoor marks in school history.

The Texas team of Rachel Helbling, Simon, Lanae-Tave Thomas and Abba also secured the fastest qualifying time in the 4x400 with an NCAA-leading time of 3:31.20. The Sanya Richards-Ross 4x400 final is scheduled for 4:50 p.m. on Saturday as the final event of the Texas Relays.
The high jump saw Trinity Tomlinson record an outdoor season-best clearance at 1.79m (5-10.5) to lead the Longhorns with a second-place finish. Just behind in third was Claire Moreau who cleared 1.75m (5-8.75). On the men's side, Sam Hurley cleared 2.14m (7-0.25) to finish seventh.
