Mac Morgan extends consecutive scoreless innings streak with complete game shutout at Texas State
SAN MARCOS, TX – Wednesday night was yet another example of Mac Morgan's brilliance in the pitching circle as the first-year Longhorn tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout in Texas' 4-0 at Texas State.
The pitching performance was the second consecutive complete game shutout for Morgan (12-2) following a five-inning outing at Iowa State on Thursday, April 6. Following Wednesday evening's game, Morgan has now thrown 12.0 consecutive scoreless innings, marking the longest scoreless inning streak for the Missouri native this season. Her previous longest streak in 2023 was eight innings from Feb. 19 against UIW to Feb. 25 against Virginia Tech.
Wednesday night's outing was the first career seven-inning complete game shutout for Morgan during her two-year collegiate career. Her previous long was a pair of six-inning shutout performances against New Mexico State on March 12, 2022 and Texas on Feb. 25, 2022.
Morgan's seven-inning pitching outing marked the first shutout of Texas State by the Texas pitching staff in a game in San Marcos since the Longhorns won, 2-0, on April 4, 2007.
FROM HEAD COACH MIKE WHITE
"Well, we know Texas State is tough team. They've played us tough in the past and they won last time we played at home earlier this season. We are excited to play them, because we faced some good pitching and good defense. I thought Reese (Atwood) really opened it up with that home run and, of course, Katie (Cimusz) and Courtney (Day) helped contribute with those late-inning, run-scoring hits. Mac (Morgan) pitched very well the whole game, so it was a good night all the way around."
