No. 7 Women’s Golf Preview: Big 12 Match Play

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 7 University of Texas women's golf team will compete in the Big 12 Women's Golf Match Play Tournament April 7-9 at Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The first time event will be a five-round conference match play tournament. The same 18 holes will be played during each round using a combination of the Ironwood and Acacia courses. Ironwood 1 will be considered as hole 1 while Acacia 1 will be utilized as hole 10.
The two rounds on Friday and the morning round on Saturday will consist of Pool Play with teams playing in threesomes with a shotgun start on both mornings and tee times on Friday afternoon. After Pool Play, the top eight teams will move to the semifinal round for both the championship and consolation bracket on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning, the tournament will conclude with the consolation and championship finals. Bracket play will consist of twosomes using tee times.
Matchups for both rounds on Friday and the Saturday morning round were determined by this week's Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. Bracket play on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning will be determined by Match Play results from the first three rounds. Teams will receive one point for a win and 0.5 points for a tie. Seeds are 1. Texas, 2. Baylor, 3. Iowa State, 4. Oklahoma State, 5. Texas Tech, 6. TCU, 7. Kansas, 8. Oklahoma and 9. Kansas State.

Texas golfers: Sophie Guo, Bentley Cotton, Bohyun Park, Cindy Hsu, Angela Heo and Emily Odwin.
Last time out Texas finished in fifth place at the PING/ASU Invitational. Freshman Emily Odwin had a breakout tournament with a fifth place individual finish, the ninth top-10 individual finish for a Longhorn golfer this season.
The Longhorns earned the team championship at the Cactus Cup match play event. Texas captured wins over No. 4 South Carolina and No. 6 San Jose State at the event. Freshman Angela Heo went 3-0 over the course of the event.
Cindy Hsu tied for fourth-place individually with a final round 67 and the team finished fifth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
In their first tournament of the spring season, the Longhorns finished in eighth place at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge. Sophie Guo led the Longhorns with an individual T2 finish.
The Longhorns posted two runner-up finishes in the fall season and finished in the top-six in all four of their tournaments. Texas recorded a 46-10 head-to-head record in the fall season.
Bohyun Park recorded a runner-up finish at The ANNIKA Intercollegiate and freshman Cindy Hsu finished in eighth-place. At the Momorial Sophie Guo finished in seventh-place and Cindy Hsu earned another top-10 as she finished in 10th place. At the Windy City Collegiate Classic Bentley Cotton was the top Longhorn with a third-place finish. In their final fall tournament, the Stanford Intercollegiate, freshman Angela Heo finished in fourth-place.
