No. 15 Men’s Golf concludes day two at NCAA Championship

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The No. 15 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 12-over-par 292 on Saturday to stand in 24th place in the team standings following the second round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club. Freshman Tommy Morrison led the Longhorns with an even-par 70 during Saturday's second round.
The 2023 NCAA Championships continue with stroke play for all 30 teams on Sunday, May 28. The field will be cut to the top 15 teams following Sunday's third round.
The Longhorns have a two-round total of 27-over-par 587 (295-292). There are currently three teams (Georgia, Stanford and BYU) tied for 13th place on the cut line at 16-over-par 576. In Sunday's third round, the Longhorns will be paired with Oregon and Mississippi State, and tee times will begin at 2:15 p.m. CT (12:15 p.m. PT) from the 1st tee.
Illinois holds the team lead with a 36-hole total of 2-under-par 558 (285-273). Florida is second at 1-over-par 561 (283-278), while North Carolina (282-284) and Georgia Tech (280-286) are tied for third at 6-over-par 566.
Georgia Tech's Ross Steelman owns the 36-hole individual lead at 7-under-par 133 (64-69), and Daniel Rodrigues of Texas A&M (70-66) and Illinois' Adrien Dumont de Chassart (68-68) are tied for second at 4-under-par 136. Freshman Christiaan Maas is the top Texas individual through 36 holes, as he moved up 11 spots on Saturday into a tie for 36th place at 3-over-par 143 (72-71).
The fourth and final round of stroke play is set for Monday, May 29, and the individual NCAA champion will be crowned following the completion of 72 holes of stroke play. The top eight teams following Monday's final round of stroke play will advance to the NCAA Match Play Championships. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Tuesday, May 30, while the NCAA Championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31.
The Lineup
- Freshman Tommy Morrison carded an even-par 70 on Saturday and climbed 47 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 96th place with a two-round score of 8-over-par 148 (78-70). Morrison tallied three birdies (holes 18, 4 and 8) against three bogeys and added 12 pars in his second round.
- Freshman Christiaan Maas fired a 1-over-par 71 in his second round and is tied for 36th place in the individual standings at 3-over-par 143 (72-71). Maas posted a pair of birdies (holes 10 and 2) against three bogeys and added 13 pars on Saturday.
- Graduate Brian Stark posted a 5-over-par 75 in his second round and is tied for 108th at 9-over-par 149 (74-75). He was even-par through his first nine holes on Saturday.
- Senior Mason Nome recorded a 6-over-par 76 on Saturday and is tied for 115th at 10-over-par 150 (74-76).
- Freshman Keaton Vo registered a 9-over-par 79 in his second round and is tied for 140th at 14-over-par 154 (75-79).
