Texas to continue three-game home tilt against Big 12 newcomer BYU
AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time since Aug. 25, 2022, The University of Texas women's soccer program will host a top-10 opponent when the No. 14 Longhorns play host to the No. 6 BYU Cougars on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
Alex Loeb (play by play) and Jessica Stamp (analyst) will have the call on the Longhorn Network.
KICKING OFF
- Monday night will mark the first time Texas has hosted a top-10 foe since playing then-No. 1 North Carolina on August 25, 2022.
- The Tar Heels ultimately knocked off the Longhorns, 2-0, behind two second-half goals.
- The four-day span between playing No. 25 Texas Tech and No. 6 BYU will mark the shortest time between playing a pair of top-25 opponents for Texas since playing then-No. 4 North Carolina and then-No. 23 UCF on August 22 and August 24, 2018.
- Both matches, which were played in Chapel Hill, N.C., ultimately went into overtime with the Longhorns tying the Tar Heels, 1-1, after double overtime, before beating the Golden Knights, 2-1, after a single overtime period.
- When Texas and BYU kick off on the pitch Monday evening, it'll mark the first time the two women's soccer programs have played each other in Austin since Sept. 20, 2010, when the Longhorns won, 1-0.
- Over the course of the five-match series history, neither team has won a match in the other's home state:
- Texas is 3-0 against BYU in the Lonestar State.

- 1-0 in College Station

- The match was played in College Station as a result of then-No. 2 Texas A&M hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

- Over the course of the five-match series history, neither team has won a match in the other's home state:
- Monday's action will mark the first time a Texas women's soccer program has played the sixth-ranked team in the nation since knocking off Texas Tech, 1-0 in overtime, in Austin on Sept. 26, 2014.
- Texas has an all-time record of 3-4-1 against the No. 6 team in the nation.
- Texas has not dropped back-to-back regular season matches since opening the 2020 against Kansas (0-1) and at TCU (0-3) on Sept. 11 and Sept. 18, respectively.
- The Longhorns haven't lost two consecutive regular season matches at home since Oct. 6 (West Virginia, 1-2, in double overtime) and Oct. 11 (then-No. 18 Oklahoma State, 0-2) during the 2019 campaign.
- With Trinity Byars' first-half goal against Texas Tech on Thursday, Sept. 21, the Texas offense has now scored 40 goals in 10 matches this season.
- After totaling 54 goals last season, the Longhorns have scored 94-or-more goals over a near two-season span for the first time since 2006 (51) and 2007 (48).
- Texas has only combined 100-or-more goals over a two-season span once in program history: 2001 (47) and 2002 (57) for a two-season total of 104.
- As a result of Trinity Byars' goal against the Red Raiders pushing her season point total to 29, the junior forward is now tied for ninth on the program's single-season point list.
- By joining the list, Byars becomes the only student-athlete in program history to rank among the top 10 on the program's single-season points list for three different seasons.
