No. 14 Soccer’s Missimo inches closer to historic season against No. 6 BYU

Texas junior midfielder Lexi Missimo moves a goal away from first 15-goal, 15-assist season in program history.
AUSTIN, Texas – In the only ranked-versus-ranked Division I women's soccer match on Monday night, Texas junior midfielder Lexi Missimo continued to show why she's one of the top student-athletes in the nation despite the Longhorns falling to No. 6 BYU, 3-2.
Missimo, who entered Monday's contest leading the country in total assists (15) and total points (39), moved to the top spot in total goals (14) following her third brace — a two-goal performance — on the season. She joins TCU's Seven Castain as the only Division I women's student-athlete to record a brace against the Cougar defense, which traveled to Austin with a 1.10 goals-against average on the season.
Missimo and teammate Trinity Byars put the Longhorns ahead, 1-0, on a Texas goal less than 4:20 into the match, marking the second-quickest goal allowed by the BYU defense this season.
Missimo evened the score 2-2 with a goal in the 66', making Texas the first team to score multiplte goals against BYU since TCU netted three on Thursday, Sept. 14.
BYU scored the game-winning goal on a chip shot by Erin Bailey with less than seven minutes left to play in the second half.

MATCH NOTES
- With her four points on two goals Monday night, Lexi Missimo is now tied with Trinity Byars (2022) for second on the program's single-season point list.
- Missimo will enter Thursday night's matchup against West Virginia with 43 points this season, three back of tying Kelly Wilson's mark of 46 set during the 2004 season.
- Monday night's scoring performance marked the third brace for Lexi Missimo on the season and pushed her season total to 14 goals, three back of Trinity Byars' single-season goals record of 17 set just last season.
- By scoring two goals against the BYU defense on Monday night, Lexi Missimo became the first-ever women's soccer student-athlete in program history to have at least 30 career goals and 45 career assists.
- With eight more goals, Missimo will join Kelly Wilson as the only student-athlete in program history to scored 40-or-more goals and be credited with 40-or-more assists throughout their career on the Forty Acres.
- Texas sophomore defender Breana Thompson was credited with her first career assist when she sparked the Lexi Missimo's second-half goal.
- First-year Longhorn Abby Allen returned to the pitch for Texas on Monday when the UNC transfer defender drew the starting assignment.
- Allen, who last played on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, went on to play 90 minutes for the first time since Texas knocked off SMU on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023.

- Texas (7-3-1, 1-2-0) will look to snap its two-match skid on Thursday, Sept. 28, when the Longhorns face off against West Virginia (3-6-2, 1-2-0) at 6 p.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
