No. 21 Soccer preview: West Virginia

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas women's soccer program is set to conclude its current three-match home stand with a Big 12 Conference match against West Virginia at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. The match will conclude a span of 10 home matches in 11 regular season matches for the Longhorns.

Glenn Davis (play by play) and Jessica Stamp (analyst) will serve as the television talent for the Longhorn Network broadcast.

KICKING OFF

Thursday could potentially be a rather historic evening for Texas junior midfielder Lexi Missimo as the Southlake native is near the top of several single-season list in the Texas women's soccer record book.

Lexi Missimo will also have the opportunity to become the first student-athlete to record a 15-goal, 15-assist season with her next goal.
- Missimo currently leads all of Division I women's soccer in both total goals (14) and total assists (15) entering Thursday night's action against the Mountaineers.
- Missimo will also enter tomorrow evening's match against West Virginia as the only women's soccer student-athlete in the Big 12 Conference with both double-digit goals and double-digit assists this season.
Thursday night's match against West Virginia will mark the final match first-year Longhorn Éabha O'Mahony will miss while spending time with the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team (IRLWNT).
- Since being called up to the senior squad for two UEFA Women's Nations League Group B1 matches, O'Mahony and the IRLWNT lead the group with six points after defeating Northern Ireland, 3-0, and Hungary, 4-0.
- O'Mahony is expected to return to the Texas program in time for the Longhorns' conference match at Kansas on Sunday, Oct. 1.
With a win over West Virginia on Thursday night, Texas will now its all-time record against current Big 12 foes to 150-69-30.
Texas is looking for its first win over West Virginia in Austin since the Longhorns knocked off the Mountaineers, 1-0, on Sept. 24, 2017.
- Texas last beat West Virginia on Oct. 13, 2022, when the Longhorns won, 2-1, in Morgantown.
- In 2022, WVU ended UT's run in the Big 12 Conference Championship with a 1-0 result in the tournament's semifinal on Nov. 3.
- Overall, Texas is 3-10-3 all time against West Virginia since the two programs first met in Austin on Nov. 14, 2004.
  - Since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12, the Longhorns are 2-10-3 against WVU.
Despite the last two results, The University of Texas women's soccer program has been ranked among the top 25 teams in both the Top Drawer Soccer and United Soccer Coaches polls for the last 17 consecutive weeks.
- Texas and BYU are the only women's soccer programs in the Big 12 to be ranked in both polls each week of the 2023 season.
Texas is the only women's soccer program in the Big 12 with multiple student-athletes having been credited with 30-or-more points so far this season entering Thursday's match.
- Lexi Missimo leads the league with 43 points from 14 goals and 15 assists, while Trinity Byars is second with 30 points on 11 goals and eight assists.
  - Texas Tech's Ashleigh Williams is the next closest to the Longhorn duo as the Red Raider has 28 points on the campaign.
