No. 7 Volleyball sweeps No. 12 Kentucky in Lexington

The Longhorns picked up their fourth-straight sweep and improved to 5-0 in SEC play.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 7 Texas Volleyball swept its fourth-straight match, taking down No. 12 Kentucky, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, in front of the sixth-largest crowd in Wildcats' history of 4,834 at Memorial Coliseum.
The Longhorns (10-3, 5-0) had their third-straight match with double-digit blocks with 14 total blocks, led by nine from Marianna Singletary.
Reagan Rutherford led the Longhorns with 10 kills, while hitting .438, in her return to Kentucky after playing for the Wildcats from 2020-23. Devin Kahahawai finished with nine kills, six blocks and five digs, with a .353 hitting percentage. Madisen Skinner added eight kills in her return to Lexington for the first time since transferring to Texas.
Singletary, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, had four kills to go with her nine blocks. Ayden Ames finished with six kills and four blocks.
Ella Swindle dished out 17 assists and finished with five digs.
The first set was close early and Texas trailed 9-8 before going on a 7-2 run to go up 16-11. Kentucky answered right back with a 6-1 run to tie the set up at 17-all but from there the Longhorns took over and won the set 25-21.
The Longhorns jumped all over Kentucky in the second set and were up 18-12 before going onto cruise to a 25-19 win. Texas was great defensively in the set and held Kentucky to an .029 hitting percentage.
Texas put the match away emphatically with a dominant third set, hitting .379 and rolling to a 25-17 win.
The Longhorns return home for their next five-straight matches, starting against Arkansas on Friday at 8 p.m. before welcoming Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
