No. 7 Volleyball sweeps South Carolina in SEC home opener

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Texas Volleyball swept its second-straight match with a 2-0 win over South Carolina, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21, on Wednesday at Gregory Gym.
The Longhorns (8-3, 3-0) had an efficient night offensively, hitting .364 as a team and with five hitters over a .300 percentage. Texas was also strong at the net and finished with 9.5 total blocks.
Jenna Wenaas led the Longhorns with 13 kills, hitting .324, and adding six digs, two assists, two aces and two blocks. Madisen Skinner was extremely efficient with 11 kills on just 16 swings, while adding six digs.
Ayden Ames and Marianna Singletary both finished with eight kills, while Singletary led the team with eight total blocks. Reagan Rutherford chipped in seven kills on 12 swings and Devin Kahahawai had five kills and six blocks.
Averi Carlson dished out 25 assists and Ella Swindle handed out 18 assists. Emma Halter finished with a team-high 10 digs.
The Longhorns had to battle in the first set and were in jeopardy of dropping it after South Carolina used a 5-0 run to go up 20-16. Texas managed to dig deep down the stretch and finished on a 9-3 run to narrowly take the set 25-23.
The second went down to the wire as well, with Texas pulling out another 25-23 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Longhorns hit .378 in the second set and were strong at the net with four blocks in the set.
The third set was not quite as close, as Texas hit .382 and held the Gamecocks to a .194 hitting percentage to win it 25-21.
The Longhorns will head back on the road for a big top-25 match-up with No. 18 Florida on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT in Gainesville.
