Men’s Tennis sweeps singles and doubles titles at ITA Texas Regionals

Freshman Timo Legout claimed the singles crown and paired with sophomore Lucas Brown for the doubles championship, while junior Jonah Braswell was the runner-up in singles.
Waco, Texas – Texas Men's Tennis swept the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Tuesday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
Freshman Timo Legout claimed the singles crown and paired with sophomore Lucas Brown for the doubles championship, while junior Jonah Braswell was the runner-up in singles.
The day opened with doubles as Legout and Brown downed Luc Koenig and Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli of Baylor, 6-3, 7-5. The Longhorns jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, including a deuce-point break on the Bears' second service game for 3-0. Texas was close to making it 5-0, but Baylor held on a deuce point in the next game for 4-1. The Bears got one break back on a deuce point for 5-3, but the Longhorns answered the break to take the set, 6-3. The second set stayed on serve almost the whole way until Legout and Brown picked up the break they needed for 7-5 to win the title.
Legout then had a quick turnaround for the singles match less than an hour later, but overcame that for a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Braswell. Much like doubles, Legout got out to an early two-break lead for 3-0, however Braswell got one back and held to get back within 3-2. The rest of the set stayed on serve from there with Braswell holding on a deuce point to stay within 5-4, but Legout closed it out on serve in the next game. In the second set, the players exchanged deuce-point breaks that first provided Legout a 2-1 lead and then evened it back, 2-2. However, Legout would then close on a 4-0 run for the championship.
