No. 9 Volleyball drops third-straight five set match

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Texas Volleyball dropped its third-straight five-set match, falling to Oklahoma on Sunday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (12-6, 7-3) had a season-high nine aces but were held to a .187 hitting percentage in the match.
Madisen Skinner led the way with 17 kills and posted a second-straight double-double with 11 digs as well. Reagan Rutherford finished with 15 kills, while hitting .344 in the match.
The Longhorns started fast in the opening set and jumped out to an 8-4 lead before the Sooners took over. Oklahoma used an 8-2 run to grab the lead and then rolled to a 25-21 win.
Texas trailed early in the second set, but the Longhorns were able to use a 10-3 run to grab a big lead. The Sooners managed to chip away at the lead and force extra points before Texas picked up a 27-25 win. Rutherford led the way offensively with six kills in the second set.
The Longhorns jumped out to another big lead in the third set and held on for a 25-19 win. Keonilei Akana finished set with back-to-back aces to put Texas back in front in the match.
Texas got out to a 15-13 lead in the fourth set before Oklahoma rallied with a 7-1 run to grab a 20-16 lead. The Sooners went on to win the set 25-17 and force the Longhorns' third-straight five-set match.
The fifth set was all Oklahoma as the Sooners got out to a big lead and never looked back for a 15-9 win.
Texas heads back on the road next week to face Mississippi State on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
