No. 1 Men's Swim & Dive dominates No. 7 Georgia in SEC dual meet opener, 224-74

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas men's swimming and diving dominated No. 7 Georgia at home in its first SEC dual meet, 224-74. The Longhorns swept both relays and diving events to win the final home meet of 2024.
Texas swept the 200-yard medley relay with the Texas 'A' team (Will Modglin, Nate Germonprez, Ryan Branon, Luke Hobson) taking the lead with a time of 1:23.35 to move to No. 10 in the NCAA rankings. The Texas 'B' team (Kyle Peck, Will Scholtz, Aleksej Filipovic, Garrett Gould) finished as the runner-up with a time of 1:25.46 and the Texas 'C' (Ben Sampson, Brayden Taivassalo, Holden Smith, Kobe Ndebele) in third with a time of 1:26.94.
Senior David Johnston finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 8:41.09 to move to No. 3 on the all-time best performance list. Rex Maurer followed behind in second with a time of 8:45.31 to move to No. 12 on the all-time best performance list.
Texas took the top three spots in 200-yard freestyle with Hobson leading with a time of 1:31.62 to move to No. 5 in the NCAA rankings. Coby Carrozza was the runner up with a time of 1:33.07 and Manning Haskal in third place with a time of 1:35.41.
Modglin continued the day with a winning time of 45.22 in the 100-yard backstroke to move to No. 11 in the NCAA.
Germonprez finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 51.39 to move to No. 15 on the all-time best performance list and No. 13 in the NCAA rankings. Scholtz followed behind in second with a time of 52.64.
Gould finished first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles with times of 19.38 and 42.66, respectively. Filipovic (19.81) and Ndebele (19.95) finished behind Gould in the 50 free and Hobson (42.73) and Ndebele (43.72) in the 100-yard freestyle.
Scholtz secured the win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:54.70, with Germonprez as the runner up with a time of 1:54.73.
Texas continued the day taking the top three places in the 500-yard freestyle with Maurer (4:13.46), Carrozza (4:14.27), and Johnston (4:14.45) and the 100-yard butterfly with Branon (46.28), Walker (46.42), and Smith (46.63).
Maurer took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:41.41. This time moved him to No. 6 in the NCAA rankings and No. 9 on the all-time best performer list.
The Texas 'A' team finished the day winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:50.07 with the Texas 'B' team behind in third with a time of 2:54.22.
The men dominated the 1M and 3M dives against the Dawgs with Nick Harris winning both events. Harris won the 1M dive with a total of 355.35 points and Jacob Jones was the runner up with 351.52.
Texas took the top five spots from the 3M platform with Harris leading the group with 391.50 points. Tanner Braunton (381.23), Jacob Welsh (371.33), Jones (369.30), and Manuel Borowski (364.28) took the following four spots, respectively.
