Former Longhorn earns his third career DP World Tour victory and first in more than six years.
RIFFA, Bahrain — Former University of Texas star Dylan Frittelli posted a final-round 1-under-par 71 on Sunday to post a two-stroke victory at the Bahrain Championship at Royal Golf Club. The win marked the third career DP World Tour victory by Frittelli and his first on the European tour in six years.
Frittelli, who helped lead the Longhorns to the 2012 NCAA Championship, registered a 72-hole score of 13-under-par 275 (67-68-69-71) to finish two shots clear of Zander Lombard and Jesper Svensson, both at 11-under. Frittelli's win marked his first European tour victory since the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December 2017. His other win on the European tour came six months earlier at the 2016 Lyoness Open. Frittelli was victorious on the PGA TOUR at the John Deere Classic in 2019.
Frittelli began Sunday's final round with a two-stroke lead, but he fell out of first place after playing the opening 12 holes in 2-over par. He responded with back-to-back birdies on the par-five No. 13 and par-five No. 14 before rolling in a 40-footer for birdie at the par-three No. 16 to regain his two-stroke advantage. Frittelli then made par on each of the final two holes to close out his win.
