Neugebauer leads decathlon after day one of Texas Relays

Neugebauer breaks NCAA decathlon shot put record at 17.26m.
AUSTIN, Texas – The 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist started off with Leo Neugebauer leading the decathlon and is ahead of pace of his collegiate record.
Neugebauer began the day running the 100-meter dash in 10.74 seconds. He later posted the top jump in the long jump at 7.81m (25-7.50) before heading into shot put. The 2023 NCAA decathlon champion later set an all-time collegiate best throw twice with a heave of 17.26m (56-7.50) and 16.67m (54-8.25) on his first attempt.
He continued his day with his second-best performance outdoors clearing 2.05m(6-8.75). 15 minutes later, Neugebauer ran the 400-meter in 47.99, his second-fastest time of his career. After five events, Neugebauer not only leads the competition with 4,620 points, but is also 29 points ahead of his collegiate record. The score ranks as the third-best day one score in NCAA history.
Freshman Brock Lewis sits in 13th-place with 3,564 points.
On the women's side, Kristine Blazevica sits in sixth-place with 3,294 points in the heptathlon. Blazevica ran the 100-meter hurdles in 13.97 seconds, cleared 1.62m in the high jump, threw 11.84m in shot put and closed the 200-meter dash in 24.85 seconds.
